Last couple of weeks I kept on hearing an add on radio about a fund that charges no fees until they make you 13% back after tax. For the life of me I can't remember the company who advertised.

Maybe you have heard the add and can help me out?

Yes initial investment is quite high for the ordinary man in the street but I like the direction Liberty took as others are bound to follow. I reckon this approach i.e. the non charging of fees until a return has been made, will become more mainstream over time on smaller investments as well.

Personally I don't like this product at all.

There is a negative, your performance above a certain level us capped, as in they take above that performance. I read it somewhere on the site a few weeks back. Oh, there it is, pages 3 and 4: http://www.liberty.co.za/our-products/investment-and-savings/Documents/evolve-brochure.pdf. So with performance above 13% (if a I read it correctly) they retain any growth above that 13% until 40%, if it goes above that you get the returns above that again as well. That's for the first 3 years. After that it doesn't work like that anymore, so you probably take a long term performance hit by losing 3 years of any growth above 13%.

Want cheap Top 40 index fund? Perhaps look at the Sygnia Top40 Index Fund, http://sygnia.nedoweb.com/collectiv...3/10/Sygnia-Boutique-Fund-and-Fee-Summary.pdf. If you choose the Boutique option of just selecting Sygnia funds (instead of the Emporium where you can select from more funds), you will pay a annual fee of 0.40 (incl VAT) for the fund.

If I read correctly one would need a minimum R50 000 lumpsum to start and monthly minimum contributions are R1000. Someone will need to phone them to make sure if that lumpsum is mandatory.

Bump for those who might have missed my weekend posting on this, because I heard the ad on 702 this morning.
