Over the past 10 years cholesterol levels have been falling while the number of Americans dying of heart disease has been steadily climbing. This apparent paradox compels us to question whether lowering cholesterol is the best way to prevent coronary heart disease. A number of recent studies suggest that cholesterol, specifically LDL- C, may not be a primary risk factor for coronary heart disease and other markers, such as insulin resistance or remnant cholesterol, may be much more important. Furthermore, therapies designed to prevent coronary heart disease by lowering cholesterol with drugs or diet have yielded inconsistent results.

Hmm. Interesting but you can see its going down with between the years of 2000 and 2010. So the treatment works. Obesity in the US spiked around 2010, so you have to look at co-morbidities.

I would say that spike to due to higher amounts of processed foods and insulin resistance. Could be due to atherosclerosis. Got to look at patient mentality, if the lifestyle doesnt change no amounts of drugs will help you for diabetes, hypertension or dislipidemia.

hmmmm very interesting.

One would have to know the cholesterol levels of those who died of cardiac events to make sense of this. The average cholesterol level taken over the entire population does not necessarily correlate with cholesterol levels amongst those who died of cardiac events.
