Howzit! I was thinking of getting a his and hers sports watch to go with our new gym membership to make us enthusiastic about working off the Xmas excess.
Can anyone recommend a product (inexpensive...or best bang for buck) that will do the heart rate and possibly record performance and I know some even have gps systems or suchlike built in. I think virgin has some recording stuff at their gyms or maybe theres pc software that comes with it but it would be good to have that interface too. Not sure if this is just an armchair sports forum ;)

Polar units are the ones I know of. If you have a Nokia phone these units also interface with the Nokia Sportstracker application and can then record your work outs on the Sportstracker website.

Get polar :p

In the fitness range the lower end usually have an interface that uses your clicks and your pc microphone. I don't fancy that so much... Unfortunately the one that uses a usb interface (FT60) is about R2.4k for the unit and the interface thingy is about R500 so for his and hers you'll be looking at R5300 which might be out of your price range. The FT60 is very nice and has quite a good "fitness program" that seems to work fairly well if you stick to it.

Here's a link:

They come in pink for the ladies as well.

Polar is good, I have the AXN 700, Nike also has a good one.

I'd suggest going to gym for at least 3 months before splashing out on equipment. :)
