Heaters under R1,000 that are ideal for backup power systems

Had to take out the fireplace this year after we found the chimney had rusted through. Fortunately winters are mild here so I'm in no hurry to replace it.

Pity though - I've got a huge pile of milkwood ready to burn.

We have a gas heater but so seldom use it. Track suit top and blanket on lap and I am all sorted in the cold snaps. Otherwise a track suit top and jeans and everything is good. It never really gets that cold in Joburg that you need heaters.

Heat yourself not the room. PEP blanket is all you need.

Running backup power and worrying about a heater is a bit crazy. Spend a bit of money, get some warm clothes and those lekker thick thermal socks and you're fine. This is SA, not Iceland.
lolwut? AC inverter can warm a room nicely.

Just my 2c - having messed around with all other solutions I can confidently state that an inverter AC is the lowest energy and most effective solution. You won't go back.

Next best - a properly installed enclosed fireplace - but that requires some work to keep it going and you constantly have to feed it.

Is the power draw constant? Thinking of one of these for the bedroom
Yes. If you really must have direct heating, then you need a proper IR heater if you want efficiency.

More suited to larger areas though. I use this one in the lounge. The warmth is felt throughout the room.

Has 4 levels of heating.
Level 1 - 500W
Level 2 - 1000W
Level 3 - 1500W
Level 4 - 2000W

We never go above level 2, it's too hot...

Yeah this kind of thing works very well in say a braai room where it’s colder than most parts and you want it to quickly heat up the spot and won’t be there for hours on end all day long.

For that use case they work incredibly well as you feel the warmth instantly.
