I had to use windows for a couple of days so I installed a windows partition via boot camp. This morning I was done with the OS from hell and removed the partition with the disk utility. I started up the Mac this evening once more en now it automatically boots into the windows partition (that I had thought I had erased, reformatted and rejoined to the main OSX partition) into windows recovery mode. And after about 30 seconds it just shuts down.

I tried boot into safe mode to no avail.

Anyone knows what's going on?

It looks like you formatted the wrong partition. You might as well format everything and start afresh.

Hold down option as you turn it on - that should bring a list of available startup environments. Select your OS X install.

Sounds like you formated the rong partition. Re-Install everything.

From what I figured is that I did not format the wrong partition, but as grantza said I should have used Boot Camp to remove the partition. So I ended up getting it to boot in to recovery mode and using the disk utility to force it to boot into the correct partition.

I almost shat my pants because I haven't ran a Time Machine for WEEKS and would have lost a lot of stuff!
