Helen Zille destroying media freedom: Muthambi

Says the woman is basically running the State Broadcaster herself having hiring and firing authority over it and basically a stranglehold over what the citizens see and hear in SA.

To be fair I think all government departments should have as many newspapers as possible for a wide variety of news. However considering how many government departments only subscribe to the New Age this is a seriously stupid statement from the Minister.

I'd say the opposite actually... waste of bloody money, if someone wants to read a paper they can go buy it like the rest of us. As for the TNA, I suspect its nothing but a front for 'legally' rolling cash out of ANC into Guptas account. Some serious investigations need to go into the money trail of TNA subs and advertising.

Newspapers are archaic, they can just read the news on the internet like the rest of us.
 
Govt went to great lengths to gain control of the Cape Times, Star and Mercury and they have a right to be upset
