Helen Zille on the ANC's dysfunctional manifesto

One of the Democratic Alliance's major challenges is to explain why our vision of an "open, opportunity society" is the best chance South Africa has of improving the lives of all our citizens, particularly the poor. The vast majority of South Africans are not interested in political theory or comparative politics. Not even the vivid example of Zimbabwe - the ultimate closed, crony society right on our doorstep - is sufficient to make the point. It will take a long time for South Africans to understand that elections are not about race and history. They are about learning from the past to make the right policy choices for our country's future.

That is because the manifesto is underpinned by the ANC's vision of a closed, crony society. It contains few proposals to create opportunity, which is the most effective weapon in the fight against poverty. Instead, the ANC's manifesto promises to concentrate more power in the hands of a so-called "developmental state". But, under the ANC, the state itself has become the enemy of opportunity in two ways ...

Zille should get her own administration in order. Frikkin useless Council, Councilors, Workers - the whole dysfunctional package. She had the cheek to complain in the newspaper about pensioners writing in and complaining that she didn't answer e-mail - suggested they were liars.

Har, har, Helen if you're reading this, I think you need your eyesight checked. Botox for the brain??

If you are going to fart Sackboy, go outside :D
I'm not sure what you mean, but Zille makes out like she's great and good, but her own ship is sinking. She really shouldn't go pontificating to the rest of them.

Then it just goes to show that even having a (supposedly) sinking ship, Zille/the DA can still do that much more than the ANC huh ;)

If you understand that the people actually telling you this ARE the DA corpus, then you'll understand. Their spin machine at work. What do the DA actually have to do?

It may be so, but what proof is there apart from Zille's spokesman putting it out as news. OK, so they are less corrupt, but from a resident's perspective things have actually got worse and cost more. Now do the maths for the higher rates :p

I don't think that the DA corpus could influence the people that made this choice:

Helen Zille, Mayor of Cape Town won the 2008 World Mayor Award

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Zille

Helen Zille was elected mayor by 106 votes to 103 on 15 March 2006, after the DA obtained the support of several smaller parties. After assuming office, Helen Zille's first major test of strength involved the decision by her multi-party government to revoke the appointment of the Cape Town City Manager, Wallace Mgoqi, whose term of appointment had been controversially extended by the outgoing ANC executive mayor, Nomaindia Mfeketo.[6] Zille's decision was upheld by the High Court which ruled that the extension of Mgoqi's appointment by the previous mayor had been unlawful.
Looks like an exceptionally good all rounder.

How does Zille's award change things, apart from her ego and more botox for the photo sessions? She's just become more arrogant.

Sackboy, if you had ANY FACT WHATSOEVER in your argument, I might take you seriously, but from all your posts that I have seen, you are nothing more than a fully upgraded War Troll.

Here's a simple rule for you: If you don't have anything worthwhile to say, then don't say it.

I'm not so sure. If Helen's spin people keep pumping out the 'good' news in the papers without the evidence, then I'm afraid the populous will believe it. Remember the NATS did the same thing. They had millions hooked as well, didn't they.

Yes.

So would you discredit the Nobel Peace prize process just because an individual you don't like gets and award?

World's best mayor award

Zille was nominated as one of 820 world mayors and has made it into the shortlist of 50 mayors.[27] She has since reached the final shortlist of 11 world mayors, and she is the only remaining mayor of an African city.

Helen Zille is a passionate and very hard-working mayor who has stood up to enormous bullying [by the ANC] to push for improved service delivery in her city. — www.worldmayor.com

She sure shows the ANC up for what they are, the bunch of inept corrupt criminals.

I would reserve the right to say what I like about any prize-winner. If one is voted in for discovering DNA and they didn't do it fairly, then sure, I would. (a case in point actually). Peer pressure tells us to accept everything we are told, regardless. We have to challenge what we believe to be true or false. I don't believe the current administration is good for me or our neighbourhood and I can say so. We also have a vote, even if we are so marginalised that we don't qualify for basic services like street sweeping, and are sponsoring the townships with our rates bill (to quote a DA Councilor). Things have been better. If anyone else (including the kiddies) has another perspective then share it now.

They are corrupt, but then the DA is not without it's own problems. Zille keeps blaming the past regime for ineptness, but doesn't actively get many changes to come through. In fact, lately, she's been defending her staff a lot. Even the Metro Police get so much stick, but we often forget who's responsibility they are.
