What things exactly?
Your Councilors will even admit this is so. We're talking about basic services like street cleaning, verge cutting, pavement maintenance, road painting, fixing streetlamps, fencing, roadsigns, council people answering e-mail (or not), answering phones, returning calls - even being in the office is a shlep for many of the lazy ones.
I've noticed a steady decline, yet a rise in rates, water bills etc..

They are corrupt, but then the DA is not without it's own problems. Zille keeps blaming the past regime for ineptness, but doesn't actively get many changes to come through. In fact, lately, she's been defending her staff a lot. Even the Metro Police get so much stick, but we often forget who's responsibility they are.
To continue the debate, I think you should start providing links to reliable sources, and without that I'd just consider it rantings of someone with a personal grudge.

I've seen this type of response before. You don't agree, so you demand proof, yet I must accept that your view is the correct one.

Look, I open the window and see the lack of maintenance. Years ago it was better. How do I prove that? Our DA Councilor admitted it. The adjoining DA councillor admitted it, in more colourful language I might add. :p
Do you actually live in the City??

If I understand you correctly you are of the belief that this is only happening in CapeTown?

You understand INcorrectly. However, the mayor of our city may be the one crowing the loudest about how good services are.

It looks like it's not just her crowing about her good service.

World's best mayor award

Zille was nominated as one of 820 world mayors and has made it into the shortlist of 50 mayors.[27] She has since reached the final shortlist of 11 world mayors, and she is the only remaining mayor of an African city.

Helen Zille is a passionate and very hard-working mayor who has stood up to enormous bullying [by the ANC] to push for improved service delivery in her city. — www.worldmayor.com

I provided international links to support my views that she's doing a fine job.

OK so the 'things' you mention then we agree affect the rest of the country, and the world for that matter, so please I ask you again, what 'other things' are you judging the Mayor of Cape Town on and against what std, exactly?

What are you saying - that someone in the US voted for Zille?
Is that how it worked??

How do you define a "fine job"? She's pouring money into the townships. People from E.Cape are arriving here by the truckload and setting up homes. They must think it's Christmas all year round. If we continue sponsoring that on a socialist basis then I have to ask whether this is a capitalist society at all or are we just cash cows for the poor and we forfeit services. Not that I don't feel sorry for those less well-off (marginally) - I do. I just don't agree with the system that demands people who contribute more, not to receive a basic service like road markings.

I might well ask you that. I look out the window and see fading STOP signs and YIELD's,
Where will the degradation end - when ther's a fatal accident perhaps?

I am not the one spewing baseless slurs against a city mayor, you are.

So if I understand you correctly, the faded STOP and YIELD signs issue only affects the city of Cape Town then?

It's a simple question Sackboy, Google is not your friend in this instance.

So your worry is STOP and YIELD signs ??? Can you find anything else substantial ??? :D

I live in Cape Town below Table Mountain and yes over the years council services have deteriorated slightly. For the most part though if you phone about a street light they do come <thousands of roads to attend too>

Fading STOP signs are the least of my worries when it comes to voting for a party (politician) .. but that's why we have a choice and you've got to pick someone :)

With 20 000 people coming in from the Eastern Cape (to the WC) its always going to play havoc wrt housing and informal settlements. No real solution but it starts with managing the city and its budgets imo :)

They lost a few arguments before, now they follow me around like stalkers. I just ignore them, since they're just kiddies and never add anything to the debate.:p

Really, still waiting on you to supply the specifics regarding those 'things' you eluded to, the suspense is riveting.

See? I didn't even have to say anything back to Sackboy. He's just proving my point all on his own :D

I would reserve the right to say what I like about any prize-winner. If one is voted in for discovering DNA and they didn't do it fairly, then sure, I would. (a case in point actually). Peer pressure tells us to accept everything we are told, regardless. We have to challenge what we believe to be true or false. I don't believe the current administration is good for me or our neighbourhood and I can say so. We also have a vote, even if we are so marginalised that we don't qualify for basic services like street sweeping, and are sponsoring the townships with our rates bill (to quote a DA Councilor). Things have been better. If anyone else (including the kiddies) has another perspective then share it now.

Have a biscuit.

At the risk of derailing this thread would you mind posting the link where you raised your concerns about the wrongful Nobel award to Crick, Watson and Wilkins?

Oh, and if you are wondering why rates and taxes and other municipal costs went up - some wonderful ANC inspired decisions led to that, viz the whole Eskom debacle and the uniform rates calculation. The metro approach was also mean to dilute the voting power of certain groups by including townships into the municipal regions. So, yes, there is 'subsidation'.
