I just have to say that I dont think this is a Good Thing(tm)!

Question: Why would Telkom *spit* want to drop this case?
Answer: Because it would have been hitting headlines, and everyone with a phone would have logged onto the Hellkom website and seen the truth.

It was never a case Telkom *spit* could win, and it could ONLY have done good for the movement if it HAD been headline news. We need MORE of this ignorant behaviour by Telkom *spit*, not less. Someone said, the amount of people watching you is directly proportional to the stupidity of your actions.

I personally BOO this news :(
Hellkom would have been cleared, Telkom *spit* would have had to pay costs, and a million more people would know how badly they are being screwed. Its a real shame.

time for Hellkom to institute legal proceedings back at Telkom, to demand payment of compensation for emotional and financial suffering, and damage to the reputation of Hellkom, caused by Telkom's threatened and presumably malicious litigation.

Don't celebrate just because your enemy has decided to stop attacking you - go immediately on the offensive, and institute proceedings for suitable compensation and an apology printed at Telkom's expense, in the daily newspaper of your choice.

no, that's just 'costs' - I'm talking of further action that goes beyond merely Telkom doing the legal equivalent of saying 'Oh sorry, we'll pay your court costs'
- I was thinking more of 'hmm, okay, technically Telkom have been shown to be wrong in their court action, now its time to make them pay thoroughly in a separate case, to punish them for having the nerve to have irritated and distressed Hellkom by their initial court action.'
Telkom paying costs isn't any kind of sufficient recompense for the pain, anguish and humiliation to Hellkom by their legal action.
I think Hellkom needs to consider the equivalent of a whole new spanking back at Telkom, to teach them that they can't just get away with 'paying court costs' if they're proven wrong - but those many sleepless nights and public destruction of Hellkom's good reputation, must be financially paid for as well.
Pick a nice BIG figure, consider the financial and emotional stress and fallout from telkom's action - and go try get it..

The bottom line was this: they had no legal case. I heard from reliable sources that a very prominent lawyer (known as *the* man in South African ECT Act affairs) who was Telkom's lawyer in this case, advised them to withdraw.
