HelloPeter’s best and worst ADSL providers

And how many times do folks actually go to hellopeter and say "wow! I'm happy". They usually go there to complain...

That's true. I once complimented MTN for swiftly presenting me with a microsim card and activating it within 10 minutes and they gushed over me like I was some sort of hero. Not a common occurrence I'm sure.

Openweb does win the comparison by a landslide though. I'm busy contemplating switching to them, and this just makes me want to even more.

Nothing odd here... I've tried WA, Afrihost and MWEB, but OpenWeb (and Telkom ISP) shame the lot of them IMO. I've never understood the love MWEB seems to get on this forum.

Mweb's technical support seems miles better. They have very generous hours and are functional most of the weekend. I've been trying in vain to get Openweb assistance this weekend.

I smell a rat, the stats for Openweb is way too high.

OpenWeb staff registering and writing compliments?

Yes, but if a lot of folks do actually go to HP to leave compliments then it's likely the company is very good.

Why? Openweb is an amazing ISP and their ADSL services perform amazingly well. I've written a compliment for them in the past simply because no other ISP can top the service I'm getting from them.

If I understand this correctly, G-Connect has received 4 compliments and 4 complaints and somehow is placed 2nd best in the rankings compared to other companies that have many more compliments and complaints. Maybe it's just me but I think HelloPeter skewered it's ranking system.

Would be nice to have the number of subscribers to pivot against. People rarely go to effort to share that they're pleased with a product/service. If a company has over 1,000 customers and 100 of them are unhappy, it's IMO a different ratio to a company of 100 customers and 10 of them are unhappy.

Disagree. Firstly, OW is good and secondly results could easily be (validly) skewed if say one ISP specifically points customers to hellopeter and asks for feedback

OpenWeb staff registering and writing compliments?
I think you'll need more proof before even *hinting* at such accusations.

Statistically the results don't look accurate for Openweb.
Statistically? I doubt ISP ratings follow any type of predictable pattern at such low sample sizes.

Individual issues aside, I'd agree that Hellopeter is a thoroughly crap method of rating ISPs and is definitely not worth a mybb article.

What you would be interesting is to also look at subscriber number for all of those listed. I suspect that the companies with the most subscribers would appear near the bottom (like MWeb) simply because they'd get lots of those impossible to please types who run to HelloPeter at the drop of a hat.

Does OW provide a better service than it promises? If so, I would understand that the complements to complaints ratio.
Normally I would expect complements of decent companies and complaints to be on equal ground as you cannot keep everyone happy and for every complaint they will try and provide exceptional service to another to cancel the complaint out.

Personally, I would not complement any company who promised something and actually delivered on that promise.

Snap! Not sure how willing the ISPs are to lifting their dresses for the others to see.

Agree, complaints:users is more valuable than complaints:compliments.

It is useful, though. I do suspect that the sample sizes are on the small side. I suggest MyBB keep a tab on HelloPeter.

On the comments: we are a fickle bunch! A few months ago Afrihost was better than a hilux and everyone fell over their feet singing their praises. Suddenly they are bottom of the pile. Or, maybe a sign of a very competitive market?

Openweb is on the correct place, was with Afrihost and MWEB before and thank goodness i left them and since i left them 6 months ago and joined with Openweb.. i never once called Openweb where i had ISP problems, allways connected and perfect latency with games.

So why would the ratio of complimentors to complainers differ for each company? Still a relevant metric.
