I hit a pothole today and my rear right rim bent badly. I am driving to Knysna from Cape Town tomorrow and need a cheap temporary wheel for the trip while my wheel is repaired.

Anyone in Cape Town know where I can get a cheap used wheel for a Golf mk5? I have the crappy mini biscuit wheel as a spare.

Its a 5 hole 112 PCD wheel so most wheels don't fit (ie. opel, toyota, mazda, nissan, ford)

Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hmmm, I'll check out some scrap yards but I'm hoping someone knows a wheelshop or has a full spare I can buy. Scrap yards don't have many 5/112 wheels if any generally but thanks.

Try a tyre place, they usually have rims lying around. Super Tyres in Durban once gave me a rim for free when I bent mine on a crater.

Just claim from insurance and get a OEM from VW...
Might be hard to find one OEM rim...

Slightly off topic but that motor car runs around R300k right?
...and they cant even throw in a matching alloy spare wheel???

That is an outrage!

People who pay the money and accept that kind of thing lower the bar for evryone to follow, whatever you settle for becomes the new standard.

A Porsche is over a million and has a biscuit tyre.
Mine has a full size spare:)
Which other cars come with full size spare wheels btw?

The excess is a bitch! Around R2000. I'm going to claim the money from the municipality. I know 2 ppl have done it successfully. My wheels aren't standard oem anyways.

ANYBODY know a place I can go???

I know... was just proving a point that the price of the car doesnt determine if it should have a full size spare or not.

My s2000 has a biscuit.... even that takes up to much space.

Ah gotya but still that is a definite WTF.

...what would be the determinant then?

Maybe as I suggested - people are prepared to take it so it is dished out?

EDIT:

...makes sense for the Porsche and the Honda but that still does not see the G5 out of the woods.

I only know of the Mini Cooper S not including a spare (because they have run flats and a tire repair kit) and some Opel's being fitted with 1 size down for large tires. I have never, in my life, seen a car sold that DOESN'T come with some kind of replacement tire or tire repair kit. It's absurd not to have one, wtf must the people think when you call them out 3am in the morning because you don't have a spare wheel (they are probably thinking you are a idiot for buying a car without a spare tire in SA).

Even my moms Mercedes that runs on alloy 19" rims comes with a spare, exactly the same as the rest of the wheels, just like that from the factory.
