Okay so, i have a PDA (HP hx2750) and i want to connect to the net on it via my broadband connection. My router is that Telkom 4 port WiFi router. I have NO idea how to set up a wireless network, i have never done anything related to WiFi, so i need some serious help please guys.

I DO know that i need to acces my router through my browser, but i forgot what that address is :(

All suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated :D

On any windows box, open a command line (Start > Run, type "cmd") and type "ipconfig" <enter>. Under your Local Area Connection, a Default Gateway should be listed. That address is the address of your router. It is usually something like 192.168.0.1. Type that address into your browser.

From there, try to figure it out, I don't have this router so know no more.

PS. Love the mod

Hi dude

Do you play CSS, I am Macguyver on CSS.
As far as I know, all you do is let your DPA search for wireless connections, and it should just pick up wireless router that you have.

Thats how it workedwith my jasjar.

Hmmm, well this is what i get from ipconfig:

Hmmm how peculiar. At the command prompt, try "tracert google.com" - the first entry in the list (hop 1) should be your router. If still not... is your router in bridge mode? Ie. do you ever have to hit a "Connect" button or something similar on your computer to get onto the net?

Edit: Only IP it is of any use to block out (red mspaint or whatever) is your public IP, that is the one listed under Openweb - IP Address. The rest would be helpful to solve your problem and pose no security risk!

Well that didn't work either :(

I think my router MIGHT be in bridge mode because i had a problem a few weeks ago and the telkom support guy made me access my router, 10.0.0.2, and enable the bridging thing.

What do i do now?

lol, i feel like such a n00b :(

a) Do you ever use a screen like this to get onto the net? If so then you're definitely in bridge mode.

b) What is the first IP address that you have blocked out in the ipconfig screen? There is no way anyone can hack you with that, I promise.

Yeah, i have to use a screen like that every single time.

The first IP i see is 192.168.11.183

(putting that in my browser yilded a blank page :( )

Nothing happens. It loads and loads and loads and eventually gives me a "problem loading page" error :(

So my router IS in "bridge mode". What does that mean? How do i fix this?

heres some explanations i found searching the forum:

Either would work equally well.
Bridged involves initiating the pppoe connection directly from the PC - any firewall on the router falls away so you have to rely upon whatever software one you might have.

Acid ... you'll not typically be using your ADSL Router like that - you probably want your router to dial-up for you and handle the firewall issues and all that stuff.

This is only useful if you currently create a Dial-Up connection on your computer to connect to the ADSL service provider.

For this kind of a setup, the ADSL modem runs in "dumb" mode, where no other functionality except for the ADSL modem functionality is made available. It's a mode called bridge mode.

Bridge mode = Modem simply forwards the network packets to the ADSL network, it is like really dumb and stuff. In this mode your computer supplies the network credentials and controls the connection lifespan and handles all security and network packets and forwarding and firewalling and ...

What this software product does is establishes one Dial Up connection through the modem, and then established another connection to possibly a different ISP at the same time. This can only be done when the ADSL modem is in Bridge mode, unless there's a router out there that can do this as part of it's normal setup [i haven't seen one].

Try 192.168.11.1 or 192.168.11.2 to get into the router.

My guess is that you'd need to your to be in route mode and not in bridged mode to connect your pda or the pda must be able to establish a pppoe connection through the router. But I have very little knowledge in the pda and wireless field. :( Other than that I would try searching on google or check the manual if you have one. If you don't then try find a manual online.

i think i know how to solve your problem ! :D

go to: http://www.marconisa.co.za/adslwifirouter_continue.htm

(is that the same router you have im assuming it is :p)

and download the installation guide (link is on the upper left )

besically wat it says is that you must put in the cd that came with it(if you dont have it i think you can download the file from that website) and click install, when it asks you for what type of connection you must choose PPPOE not bridged mode.

then it asks you for username and password and automatically sets it up for you........

after it has setup the router properly then you can go to internet and type in 10.0.0.2 and type in username and password etc

the guide has all this mentioned i think....and has a basic guide of how to setup the wireless. then you simply search for the network on your PDA, enter the password for the network and you're connected!

good luck

DAE, do you have much of a home network? Just that that IP and subnet mask is unusual. Check under Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Properties > TCP/IP > Properties (phew!) to see if it is set to automatic or if the numbers are entered in there.

Do what Hansa says about putting in cd and setting to router mode, then if you don't have a hectic home network, set to automatic (TCP/IP thing) if its not already. Then, try access 10.0.0.2 in your browser.

If you make those changes and still nothing, get another ipconfig report and bring here.

OKay guys, i'm gonna try that now :)

@ Flippit: No, my IP and Subnet were what i was given at RAGE and was just too lazy to change back. Now i've set them to be obtained automatically again.

So you changed IP at RAGE, got back home, ADSL didn't work, called Telkom, they told you to use bridge mode? Just guessing ;)
