Hi,

I've downloaded 99% of Ubuntu with FlashGet, however it won't finish the last 400 KB I need!

No luck with alternate URLs either. The server I'm downloading from is also fine. I can restart the download from scratch.

Is there anyway I can fix this?

How dare you abuse Telkom's precious bandwidth by downloading non-M$ rubbish? :D

ADSL in SA is not intended for such large downloads... how dare you complain when you are abusing the system!;)

Use a download manager. I tried the same with manuals for Nissan, After about 10 attempst and failures over ADSL and SAT link I downloaded Getright demo and "Free Download Manager V2.0" I tried the last one first and it woked so great that the Getright got not even tried, Downloaded 7 * 32MB files with no hitch

flashget

Thanks to all the suggestions everyone...

I'm already using a download manager: FlashGet. My question is how to fix the .jc! file that has been completed 99%. I've tried all the dumb stuff already, pause & restart etc. with no luck.

Any ideas?

Try another manager, If that fails then the file must be the issue!

I'm sure someone in Cape Town also uses Ubuntu and has a spare cd, you can get 5 free cds of it if you order by post.

I can post you one from Joburg, might be quicker than waiting for the last 40K :p

There's a freedom toaster at the MTN Science Centre in Canal Walk. Alternatively HBD has office in Durbanville, I'm sure they'd be happy to organise.

If you are in Cape Town and got some blank cd's/dvd's you can go to uct -> Computer Science building. They have one of those Freedom Toasters thngies that has all the latest linux distro's on it etc. You just stick it in there and it writes it for you. :p Just don't park there without a permit, those things cost like R350

First time I saw it i went mad, and the girl standing nxt to it looked at me wierd cause i was kinda screeming yay and yes and pushing buttons

hehehehe you made me chuckle :p

okay fastest solution i can think of is someone has the EXACT same ver u downloading and makes some pars [think usenet] and all ye do is get one par2 file from that person and see how many blocks needed [most probably 1 block] and download it from that person and "POOF" you should now have it 100% but remember for future upgrades to do what the other lovely members suggested and get it burned :) & try not to get a parking ticket 2  .

Does anyone think this idea might work?

Get the par2 checker and creator from here

If you are downloading from within Linux then the iso can be repaired with Bittorrent (Linux version), not sure if the Windoze version will do this as I dont use it.
Copy the semi-downloaded iso into your Bittorrent destination folder and then start downloading the iso again with Bittorrent, which will check the downloaded section and continue with the download. I have successfully done this. Check the Ubuntu forums.

PS. I ordered mine from Shipit, but not sure when it will arrive (bandwidth reasons) :D
