What works for me is dicloflam.
and if you really suffer from ankle of foot pain, buy some Epsom salt, and soak your foot in warm water with the epsom salt before you go sleep. the next morning the pain will be gone.
Doesn't take care of the actual problem.

Just been diagnosed on Monday, as I woke up with a sore left foot and couldn't even stand up properly.

The doctor says I need to be pain free for 2 weeks before starting Puricos, but the pain meds he gave me now are not doing anything other than make me drowsy. He also prescribed Colchicine for the acute gout.

Going back to the doctor later.

2 cataflams and 1 colchicine helps with immediate pain.
lots of water and stay close to the toilet.
with every passing of urine or loose stool the pains subsides

That's odd: I've been taking Colchicine since Monday afternoon, and my stool is normal - maybe it's not working on me?

The pain was OK on Mon/Tues, and it actually got worse yesterday. Today is a bit better, but still worse than the initial pain.

I can't really take NSAIDs because of stomach ulcers, but I don't think I have much choice now.

going to the doc now, will report back.

Is that not why the British invaded South Africa because they found gout in the Transvaal?

Update:

Took one Arcoxia + one dose of cortisone & one Colchicine at 1pm (after eating), thereafter one Colchicine every 2 hours.

Happy to report that my left foot feels almost normal, with minimal pain.

So it looks like hitting it hard works better than the slow approach.

Not solving the actual problem long term though.

Cut down on the alcohol, red meat and sedentary lifestyle. Gout magically disappears after that,

Yeah, it's not really that: we eat red meat at most once a week, otherwise it's pretty much a veg diet. I have 1-2 whisky after dinner, no binge drinking. I'm more active since I stopped working (sitting at a desk).

I just spoke to my brother, who is a lot more health-conscious/active than I am, and his uric acid levels are also sky high, so just bad genes it seems.

That's the only thing that will solve the problem long term, if you don't know what triggers it or if you're not able to avoid what triggers you.

yes, once I'm pain-free for 2 weeks, the plan is daily purichose

jeez, you guys weren't kidding about the side-effects of Colchicine...

I took the last one at 8am this morning and then it's just been Imodium

Yep, don't overdo it. Taking two at a time is not going to make it go away sooner

Sorry, forgot to post an update last weekend:

I stopped the Colchicine at around lunchtime on Friday. By Saturday morning all the pain was gone, just some stiffness in my foot.

I'm still taking Colchicine twice a day until they run out in a couple of days, and then will go get the chronic meds next week.
