I cannot sleep, worst attack I've had in my life so far.

Fml I'm not looking forward to the future knowing how this ends.
You will hve to knock some anti inflammatories and try to keep pressure off the joint

Sometimes you get a spidey Goutey sense on the day or day before about get an attack - tingle or almost like mild pins and needles in the foot or ankle (knee sometimes) - knock a gen payne / myprodol or whatever anti inflammatory you prefer

I get exactly the same sensation...I just know when an attack is coming. If you can stop it in time, it save you a lot of trouble.

But sometimes it flares up in a few minutes to max...then I use my recipe.

I've been nursing an attack that came on second last weekend of Jan. Been to the doctor, had more that my share of cataflam and dicloflam. Been using puricos for about a week, maybe 2?

Tried quitting alcohol cold turkey for the whole of Feb, along with going on a vegetarian diet. Neither of those helped, so now I'm back on meat and drinks, albeit less of both than before. Did a course of cochichine (sp), became best buds with my throne after that and nada. Had another flare-up yesterday (not been drinking beer through the week, only had a glass of red wine one or to of the weekdays this week).

I've essentially been in some form of pain since Jan, with the intensity being a bit more on some days than others.

Why didn't your doc shoot you up with the gout cocktail? Gout is gone within a few hours.

Nursing gout this long does major damage to your joints and the cartilidge at the site of the gout attack.

He gave me a Cortisone injection as well as the anti-inflammatories. It helped, but it never fully went away.

Wow...that's hectic. Sounds like there's damage already that is now prone to secondary inflammation.
Well I hope not. It's difficult to describe. The pain and swelling are mostly gone (for the last couple of weeks), but it's not completely gone. Like, gone enough that I can sort of go on with my life, but not gone enough to say that I'm pain free, if that makes sense. I can do most things normally without pain, but for instance, walking normally is something that is still a little painful. Maybe I'm overreacting? I dunno. Was really hectic that first week.

What triggers yours? My neighbour reckons his is too much protein.
Another friend reckons this stuff regularly helps

Jirre....I'd rather have gout than go through all that drama.

2 x Myprodol
2 x Cataflam D
5 x Prednisone

Gout 80% better in about an hour.
Gone the next morning

Similar to what I do normally,

I take puricos daily, which is why I am so surprised this bastard came through.

Then I swallow two Voltarens, 3 - 6 colchicine and 2 - 4 dicloflam during the day.

What is Prednisone?

This is normally how this works, I get about a 2 day ramp up to prepare.

But this attack, I felt it at 8AM, 2PM I was already crying.

Not sure if this helps, but this is what my first few attacks was like when I started with puricos, it took about the 2 months mark on puricos before it felt gone gone, I was 19 then, I am 27 now and still at it with puricos, sucks balls.

But trying to say, I think that initial period on puricos creates mini flare ups, not sure.

I've seen it mention elsewhere in the thread as well thanks, so hoping it's a sign the vile demon stuff is being banished from my body.

Cortisone...actually the same type of cortisone that your own body manufactures. It just adds to it and stops the inflammation dead.

Get a script from your GP. I always have at lest 50 little pills in stock...

sounds a bit like that I experienced last yr:

June 2020:
Blood tests and Xray confirm that I do not have gout. My uric acid is below 0.1, which apparently is too low. The diagnosis (for now) is Reactive Arthistis, most likely caused by my gut floral imbalance (another long story).

For now the treatment will be 7 days of cortisone for the pain and 60 days of Plasmoquine as an anti-rheumatoid. We will then re-assess after 3 months.

Now:
So the Plasmoquine didn't work, and we switched to Salazopyrine around September. 3 months later, that also didn't prove effective, so we added Methotrexate to the mix. All the while taking Cortisone on and off to try and suppress the inflammation.

All I have to show for this is a massive gain in weight and constant fatigue, and my feet still sore/tender to the point that walking more than 1km to the local Spar and back is about as much as I could bear.

I read up more on RA and found a number of papers on the link between gut health and RA. So I contacted Synexa Life Sciences (https://www.synexagroup.com/), and had a stool analysis done, which revealed the presence of bad bacteria in my gut, and elevated inflammation markers.

The Prof in charge put me on a course of ProBiotics, Oregano oil, Olive leaf extract, bucchu, and Glutamine. Within a couple of days, my feet were back to normal - even driving to JHB and back, I had zero pain/tenderness.

However, as soon as I got back home, the symptoms returned, and now I'm starting to think that my consumption of whisky is the trigger, as I had none in the past 3 weeks while on holiday. I'm cutting out all whisky to see if this is indeed the case.

It will be a sad day if I can't drink whisky anymore...

Hey guys, I need some Advice & Info

This weekend my foot started to pain badly - feels like a sprained ankle (but hurts more maybe)

I was told I just "slept with my foot wrong"

I now walk with a sort of limp :D

Today at work I just told everyone "I sprained my ankle" (As i've never heard of Gout) but now that my boss tells me Gout does that to him, and it won't go away unless you take pills

I'm not a pill guy - i'm almost never sick, so i need advice

- Is this gout ?
- do I actually NEED pills for it to go away?
- What pills do i need, and how much do they cost? are they available at my local pharmacy?

and also, what causes gout? diet?
i started suffering from gout from an early age,its not genetic but my life style choices cause this as there is no one in my family that suffers from it and i mean no one from both sides.I have been suffering for many years and i am kinda like my own doctor for this even though i went to 100 of doctors for gout and xrays and blood test. They just could not find a reason why i get gout,i mean my blood test was always normal etc etc

There are not really good home remedies for gout but cherry juice or real bitter cranberry juice.IF you have swelling at any joint as gout can affect any joint it sees fit and it works with gravity also to some point until you saturated with uric acid in your blood stream then you require medical assistance but not much.
1-First if you can get a voltaren injection it really help in every case.I highly suggest this if you not allergic to it
2-prednizones is a must for the days that follow after the attack.ONly a doctor can give this and you have to take it in stages.(8 tabs next day 7 tab and so on till you reach 1)...after 5th day you will be fixed.
3-To manage pain 300mg -100mg ibuprofans.Take 6 a day and add a painkiller to that so its 3 tabs 3 times a day.
4- pain management the wonder drug colchicine you can use but one 3 times a day.. please not due to the way this drug works it produces side effect in every one and most common is running to the toilet but not sever diarrhea just like a laxative. kinda way.

If all else fails then allupronol is the only way for life starting at 600mg down to 100mg depending on your saturation of uric acid and how much you pee a day. This tablet over 2 years can reduce attacks to zero depending on your diet and weight lose.
NB*never eat red meat or drink beer or eat chocolate when you suspect a gout attack, infact just eat noodles and drink a moerse lot of water for 3 days.NO cokes nothing....if you must always remeber a half cup of red meat for the 3 days.

Gout makers is barley ,chocolate..infact any food out there that has high purine counts, these break down to k@K urate crystals like i call them blades that stab the meat by your joints and liquid parts.

Apparently cataflam( sorry spelling) is a good way to stop gout before it happens.Honestly i dont know as my attacks are so sever i need injections( voltaren) then i am as right as rain in 3 days
I dont know if people know this but gout is a severely peiinful experience. I dont wish knee gout on my enemies.YOu will need a wheel chair for that and this is what i am going through now as i am writing this.

Sorry for all the grammer mistakes but i am in PO#*$ pain here

So, after a full month of abstaining from whiskey, my feet got better, to the point of feeling 'normal' again.

Two nights ago I had 3 drams of the Hibiki, and the next day my feet were in pain again.

So yeah, my 25-yr love affair with whiskey looks to be at an end... FML

How much water do you consume?

I have had one severe gout attack in my life which was my first one. Suffered for two weeks until I bumped into my doctor at my uncle's place. I asked him what was wrong, he poked my foot once and laughed. Then told me I have gout. After watching me limp around for 20min he took me to his practice and gave me a voltaren injection with some steroids mixed in. After 20min I was 100%, effects lasted for about 4 days. By then I had the meds.

Colchicine works for me, and I back it up with some K-Fenak or Panamor AT-50. I find that when I feel an attack coming I increase my water intake by at least a litre per day. Basically anytime I drink water I consumer 500ml at a time, with the goal of having around 3l a day. This flushes out my system enough that the pain diminishes. As we speak if I move my big toe on my left foot I can feel a little discomfort but its so mild that I don't even bother taking meds for it. I had to take meds last week because of how bad it got, but I am in the process of changing my diet so I think that was the reason for the attack.

For me gout is like my heartburn; I live my life and just take meds and other precautions to deal with it. I know I will have heartburn when I eat pizza, so I take an Omez 20mg before the meal and I am fine. I won't give up my red wine or red meat, life is short and I enjoy living it.

So had my 1st gout attack last week .
Doc gave coclchicine, prednisone and mybulen . After taking the meds the pain reduced alot within the 1st day. By day 5 almost all pain gone, just some stiffness in my big toe joint.
I'm now on day 8 and pain seems to be coming back although much more manageable as i can move around with a slight limp . Is this normal or would i need to get another prescription for more pills until the pain is gone completely ? Doc said that he would only put me on gout medication if i get another flare up . Would prefer not to take anything as i was hoping that i could get my UA levels under control with a few diet changes .

basically everything he gave you is to reduce the swelling , which hopefully will come down enough for the crystals stuck in the joint to get free (and hopefully any others in your bloodstream do not get stuck there as well), technically you not treating the cause but the symptoms. Getting your UA levels low will help going forward .
