So, after a full month of abstaining from whiskey, my feet got better, to the point of feeling 'normal' again.

Two nights ago I had 3 drams of the Hibiki, and the next day my feet were in pain again.

So yeah, my 25-yr love affair with whiskey looks to be at an end... FML
the thing with gout is purine count and the only alcohol with less purine count is vodka and jin.Actually any water clear alcohol is ok to drink i guess. If i really must i will drink vodka with cranberry juice or orange juice.Remeber at the end of the night you need to dilute that with at least 2 litres of water..lol

How much water do you consume?

I have had one severe gout attack in my life which was my first one. Suffered for two weeks until I bumped into my doctor at my uncle's place. I asked him what was wrong, he poked my foot once and laughed. Then told me I have gout. After watching me limp around for 20min he took me to his practice and gave me a voltaren injection with some steroids mixed in. After 20min I was 100%, effects lasted for about 4 days. By then I had the meds.

Colchicine works for me, and I back it up with some K-Fenak or Panamor AT-50. I find that when I feel an attack coming I increase my water intake by at least a litre per day. Basically anytime I drink water I consumer 500ml at a time, with the goal of having around 3l a day. This flushes out my system enough that the pain diminishes. As we speak if I move my big toe on my left foot I can feel a little discomfort but its so mild that I don't even bother taking meds for it. I had to take meds last week because of how bad it got, but I am in the process of changing my diet so I think that was the reason for the attack.

For me gout is like my heartburn; I live my life and just take meds and other precautions to deal with it. I know I will have heartburn when I eat pizza, so I take an Omez 20mg before the meal and I am fine. I won't give up my red wine or red meat, life is short and I enjoy living it.
you are on the right path, like i said in my previous post,If ever you suffer from gout a voltaren injection is the top winner.I believe in 100 cases it is very effective always and with predizones after for 3 days.
Killerbyte you do know that your attacks is going to become more frequent as time goes by...this you cannot prevent no matter what unless you take heed on the diet. Its inevitable the nemesis of life.

Whay i do know is if you get one attack, then maybe another one 3 years later then it will start coming..lol

So had my 1st gout attack last week .
Doc gave coclchicine, prednisone and mybulen . After taking the meds the pain reduced alot within the 1st day. By day 5 almost all pain gone, just some stiffness in my big toe joint.
I'm now on day 8 and pain seems to be coming back although much more manageable as i can move around with a slight limp . Is this normal or would i need to get another prescription for more pills until the pain is gone completely ? Doc said that he would only put me on gout medication if i get another flare up . Would prefer not to take anything as i was hoping that i could get my UA levels under control with a few diet changes .
By day five you were suppose to be ok if you took an injection and prednisone to last for 5 days and brufans with that.I am a sever case and i only have gout for 5 days then it gone.
Like i said during an attack do not aggravate the situation.Drink lots of water and do not eat any meat or cokes or chocs or gravies or beer.GO chinese and eat noodles....lol.
I tell you the only reason it comes back so quick is that it never left.It takes time for those crystals in the joints and meat to dissolve and to be urinated out.YOur kidneys play a big part in fixing this.Allow your kidneys to work efficiently by drinking lots of water.

Since 2009 my knees and feet is in pain after a tonsillitis infection. The GP told me its gout so I went to the clinic for chronic meds. There was a lot of tests done including taking liquid from my joints. They didn't find any crystals and but I was put on a gout diet and meds was prednisone, voltaren, puricose and colchicine. I was about 2 years on the meds but it didn't help. I went for a second opinion, and again the GP told me that I have gout and request some tests. At the hospital a specialist have a look did the test and confirmed its not gout. He couldn't tell me what it was and was prepared to do more test. For some reason he was transferred to another hospital so the next doctor discharged me.
For the next few years I took voltaren for the pain that comes and go from time to time. Last year Feb I had a rash on my legs and feet and the pain was still present. I was 3 times at the local GP where I was tested for diabetes and found that I my sugar levels was correct.
September last year I went to the clinic when for an ulcer on my left leg where it was treated until Feb. Now my left foot is in pain after that. It seems that I have poor blood circulation and the veins in left foot is causing the pain. The poor blood circulation runs in the family. The gout diagnosis was incorrect for all those years.

What did all those test results say about your uric acid levels ?

it was in normal range, and the liquid extracted from my knees was only infection with no crystals. My rheumatoid factor was high according to one doctor but was too low for the doctor I saw on my next visit. The reason the gave me gout meds as the specialist explained because he think I might have reactive arthritis.

I drink fairly regularly (whiskey and water) and eat lots of meat. Decided to get on a bit of a diet this week to prep for my wedding. I dont eat much chocs and barely even drink cool drink or sugary drinks. Started eating smaller portions, went for a good run, took a detox, feeling good overall.
Then Bam last night, gout attack ! I figure my trigger is beans !

Each person has their trigger and certain beans and lentils have high purines. But each to their own, I also feel having an acidic digestive system doesn't help, I have suffered with ulcers before ,curry doesn't go down as well as it used to

I cannot sleep, worst attack I've had in my life so far.

Fml I'm not looking forward to the future knowing how this ends.
I find it hard to explain the pain to people. Wanting to chop my foot off just to relieve the pain. It BURNS when you lift it, it BURNS when you try rest it. It's just exhaustive pain non stop until you fall asleep.

I get a bad attack once a year or so, lasting intensely for 3-4 days, then 3-5 days of not being able to walk properly.

The worst time was when I got it while on a job site - I had to hobble along swearing every step. Then had to drive home 18hrs in a snowstorm. I felt like an angry truck driver - swearing everytime someone in front of me made me press my brake pedal.

Could it be that the kidneys can't process the purines? Why are some people more likely to have gout?

Been on Puricos 300 for about a month now and had another flare up after doing some hard mountain biking . i read that strenuous excercise can also cause a gout attack but i probably should have rested longer before getting active again .

Are you guys still able to live active lifestyles like playing sports , running, cycling etc on a weekly basis when your gout is under control with no pain?

Long term solution from what I found was to quit eating pigs, drinking cheap **** and eating sour things.

I felt that eating less had an impact. Think by being hungry more that there was more stomach acid going around which could have played a role.
It's a lot more simple:

>>"As you lose weight, you start to metabolize body tissues, and there is an increased flux of purines that the body has to deal with, which leads to increases in uric acid,"

It has me in a state of chronic gout. When I eat healthy and lose weight then I'm crawling or hobbling around on most days. When I eat like a slob then I'm A OK. Really frustrating.
