help in designing a pc for design work?

Hey people,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers, preferably people who are in design, in building a pc.

I am pretty keen on using the new Llano processors by AMD because of the graphics boost it gives when adding an additional GPU.

Effectively the price range I am looking at is between 5000-6000. No need for a monitor though it only supports d-sub output (no DVI or HDMI unless i get a converter).

Do any of you have thoughts on this?

What design work? Programs?

What kind of design work (building architect / graphics designer) ? Which applications are you going to use?

If your screen is still using D-Sub and your profession requires colour accuracy, then I would strongly recommend that you replace that screen for with an IPS panel with DVI/HDMI inputs. eg. Dion Wired Specials - until end of today - see LG 23" LED Monitor (IPS236V) @ R1999

One thing I know of from my work is that you can never have enough RAM. Start with a minimum of 4 gigs and then go up, depends on the size of things you model and the amount of parts you load.

as for the ram, I agree with you there. secondly, i will be looking to upgrade the monitor but at a later stage, possibly 3-4 months aftter this purchase.

Would it be advisable to use the new Llano processors? I read in NAG that ultimately computers are relying more on graphic intensive calculations. Or should I just resort to the iCore Series.

What programs are you using? llano i doubt will be of any use but then again we are swimming upstream here.

oh right, the programs, InDesign, Photoshop, Video Editing software, photo editing software. such as the like.

Why would do you doubt the Llano?
