What you need is cardio and lots of it.

You need to spend at least 45 minutes three times a week on a treadmill/cycle/eliptical machine followed by one or two circuits on the super circuit.

Lino firstly of all your main problem is hunger, i just started smoking again 3 months, my mood and constant hunger got the better of me.

Anyways your hunger is going to be your main problem and will lead to bad eating. I would suggest getting those fat burning pills from pills to control your hunger. Other than that dude just get into the gym and train.

Lino have you ever thought of buying an orbitrek? No hassle of going to gym and it is very good on the knees unlike the treadmill. Work your entire upper body with it as well.

I quit smoking for several months, and after gaining nearly 10 kilos i started smoking again ... The main thing is doing something with your hands, my killer was eating sweets. The constant hunger you can solve by filling up with the right things ie steamed veggies and lots of it. Not fun to eat, but hey it does the trick. Resistance training is the best for burning fat.

Drink a glass of water when you are hungry. It helps quell the hunger pangs. I'm told that losing weight is about 75% what you eat, only 25% exercise or some ratio close to that.

Smoke again; a friend of mine's grandad started smoking heavy pipe tobacco at age 12. He's pushing 90 this year and he's in perfect health, considering most 90 year olds who don't smoke are dead.

My doctor told me ( way too late) that when you quit smoking you should eat 1/3 less than you used to.

Also get your thyroid checked mine stopped working round about the same time i quited.

Good luck :( it's very hard work and sometimes you will feel like taking up smoking again, but you will not lose the weight by smoking again.

I'm smoke free for 6 months now.

AFAIK smoking helps you lose weight or maintain weight by curbing your appetite...but thats it? So when you stop smoking your appetite increases thus causing you to eat more and pick up.

I'n some cases yes. But smoking increases your metabolism so when you stop and do not snack ( i did this ) you will still pick up weight.

I have seem many off my friends stop smoking pick up weight start smoking again but they never lose the weight again. I think it's the will power thing:eek:

After month and years of trying to quit smoking. I finally did it, sure I will always have the urge but as long as I do not have another one I will be fine.

Only problem with quitting smoking is the weight one gains:eek:, I have gone from a total of 85kg to about 95kg:confused:.

I am more than happy with everything but I am so hungry all the time since I stopped smoking. To make matters worse I have been too busy and have not been to gym in months:(

Here is the thing, I already have an 50 minute routine I have to do for my legs. *Have weak knees thus this part of my routine is sorted*

However I need to do the following:

Three times a week I need to get the following in:

45minutes of cardio: I tend to do, 15 minutes of cycling, 15 minutes treadmill, 15 minutes of rowing machine.

45minutes of the routine of my legs. All sorted and specially setup by a training instructor.

However I need something for my upper body, including bench press etc.

Not to mention my diet, planning to cut down on my carbohydrates. Steaming the rest of my food etc.

To lose weight and burn calories like a nuclear reactor there is nothing more effective than HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).

I find HIIT gives a much better definition and muscle tone. Think of the difference between a sprinters physique vs that of a marathon runner. The reason being that you are training for faster twitch muscle fibres vs slow twitch fibres with a more cardio marathon workout routine.

You can perform HIIT with whatever you prefer i.e. Running, Cycling and/or swimming.

Remember carbohydrates aren't bad as long as they are the right types of carbs i.e. go for more complex carbs to fuel your workouts instead of the simple sugars.

Remember though do not gym if you very stiff and sore, work your way into the training slowly and do not go mad in beginning as you will only hurt yourself.

I have to disagree slightly with the person who said you need to do tons of cardio. Losing weight has as much or arguably more to do with weight training as cardio. Cardio burns calories directly - weight training teaches your muscles to burn calories more efficiently and to turn the fat into muscle. There is this misconception that weight training is about vanity and cardio is about health. Read this and this. Muscle tissue burns calories passively. You cannot afford to lose that element of weight loss.

In one routine I might do 15 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of weights, nearly all free weights. I try to balance between legs and arms as well as stomach crunches. Just get on a bench and start lifting dumbbells - there's no great secret to it. Good luck dude!!
