Hi

I have a Starsound Rogue 6600w connected to a Targa TG -1202D2 12" DVC 650x2 sub at 1 ohm.

The amp popped a "hex output ic" as technician told me and fixed it...and popped same ic in 30mins after re-fitment.

Can the sub cause this what may be faulty? And is their no protection on the amp for something like that?

And is it fine to connect the sub on 1 ohm for everyday use?

thx

In general running lower ohms e.g. at 1 ohm makes the amp work harder. The amp will draw more current at the lower impedance and generate more power provided that the amp is capable of running at that 1 ohm impedance.

Normally the sub is the first to go if there is not enough current or the amp was not meant to run at the 1 ohm impedance. It could be amp is taking strain at 1 ohm.

As to why it's getting damaged extra heat?

And the amp supports DVC subs?

I blew a few ic's and power transistors from trying to push the amp too far (also at 1 ohm stable). I repaired it myself and it was definitely more than one component that needed to be replaced - may the problem was fixed entirely?

Run the sub at 4 ohm i.e. wire the coils in series. The amp should run a lot cooler and test its reliability from there.

Running at 1 ohm also requires bigger power supply which is not really suitable for everyday.

I cannot see how you can run a DVC SUB at 1 Ohm, unless they are 2 Ohm rated coils connected in parallel.
Take a multemeter to the sub & measure the resistance on each, if they are 4 Ohm coils, measuring lower, you sub could be faulty

If the same IC popped again, there must be something else causing it in the amp.

You can't measure impedance with a multimeter. And resistance has as much to do with this as the colour of the amp.

If the same setup is consistently popping amps then change the setup. And at a 1 Ohm load that amp is working very very hard.

The amp output is 1200w rms @1ohms and that targa sub 650x2 = 1300 w rms
You need a big amp
