I dont remember a lot of users who play online games.
Most of online players prefer ADSL as it offers more stable pings

yeah very true native... I have tried to play online a few times with iburst, but the lag is just too hectic... 5mbezchr, if u wanna play online properly, then as far as I know the only way to go is ADSL

Frequently asked question number nine.

Q: Can I use iBurst for internet gaming?
A: If you are playing realtime strategy games such as Warcraft, where latency (ping) is not a big consideration, then yes, iBurst will work fine. If you are a FPS (Quake, Counterstrike) player, then your iBurst gaming experience will be a crippling one. Due to the way that the wireless technology shares timeslots on the base stations with all users connected to it, ping/latency can be very unpredictable. In short, if you're a serious gamer iBurst will not impress you. If you're a casual gamer, it might be OK.

I disagree with that.

I play UT2k4 all the time online. No Problems.

Aah same conversation going down in another thread.. but I cant even play Warcarft on my Iburst connection, not even local. Could anybody help? My pings arent all that bad 65-90 or so to MyADSL and around 100 ish to Iburst.co.za but that is pretty bad.

65-90 mostly and you get the random 1000ms ect ect values.
Or literally min 65 max 90

Try:
open cmd
ping -n 20 196.30.31.100 -l 1
check the max value this is the value you really want to reduce for consistant pings

Nope youre right more like 70-90 at the moment but only really 150-250 occasionally maby 1000's once or twice only really during the day.
Thats to MyADSL, much better pings than to Iburst.co.za, and i cant ping the address you gave. But max would be higher due to those 250's etc.

Oh, how I hated those LPB (low ping bastards) on NTL cable in the UK when playing RtCW:ET (the Operation Marketgarden map was a blast, especially with all 50 players online!) - they had pings of 5 to the server.

Even my BT ADSL seemed slow compared to that - and my pings were normally not more than 20 - 30!

I miss that. A lot.

please stop making us cream ourselves dude, we dont need to hear about the glories of outer-Africa internet, just too depressing. Cant really deal right now with my problem of 340 odd pings to battlefield and even Dota unstable!

Code:
Pinging armageddon.telkomsa.net [196.25.69.222] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 196.25.69.222: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=123
Reply from 196.25.69.222: bytes=32 time=36ms TTL=123
Reply from 196.25.69.222: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=123
Reply from 196.25.69.222: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=123

Ping statistics for 196.25.69.222:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 36ms, Average = 24ms

I dunno Crash. I suppose it depends on where you are playing games (UT). If you're a serious player then playing anywhere else than at SGS is pretty much pointless. Anything less than the pings above is a crippling gaming experience once you're used to it. Spiky/unpredictable pings and packetloss = death.

Rodent are those pings from Iburst ? Do you have an antenna with it? Wouldnt that increase the signal str, hence a more stable connection = better pings ?

No way thats from Iburst, must be ADSL unfortunately. I pinged the same adress just now and got 80-150 etc. pretty unstable but during day time, is a huge difference though... wouldn't mind pings like that!

theRodent has ADSL donno which also never seen those sort of pings on iBurst the best you will prob get is 50-100 never normally less maybe on one or 2 on super connection say -64db. An arial helps improve you connection as a whole including latency but the improvement will depend on location eg Getting an arial for your iburst in Zimbabwe is not ganna help.

I can see I will get ppl confused with that comment oh well

Sorry guys, I thought it was common knowledge that I'm on DSL at home. Yes, those were from DSL. I'm a pretty serious gamer, and can only say that all wireless connections I've tried for gaming have all sucked, unfortunately.

It's just the way wireless technology works, sad, but true. The benefits of wireless is a quick install, no lines, etc. The disadvantages is that you share a tower with lots of people and that seriously increases latency on the first hop.

I agree with TheRodent - iBurst is not a viable option for online gaming - unless you want to 'die' a lot online, without even seeing your enemy when you get 'killed'.

With ADSL, you're connected directly to Geldbom exchange, whereas iBurst makes use of signal towers.
