And where is all those extra licence fees and petrol levies going to?

Even if they do get the money how are they going to expand it? The issue is already at new road exit where the lanes close and cause the bottleneck. In the mornings the traffic is standing still anyways and God forbid someone wasn't paying attention and crashed.

CoJ and CoT need to throw money at Old JHB road and Pretoria main road and maybe get that a 3 way lane both way to help ease congestion on the highway.

The R22 billion cost was also inflated. Go ask the people who received that money to pay back the debts.

Old johies have been repaved already. I think the new DA metros need to weed out the legacy corruption in the metros first. They will get to improve the infrastructure eventually they just need to 'clean house' first. just be patient, the improvements may take a while. Rome was not built in a day.

They expanding feeder roads as much as possible but this is a three tier solution which includes Gautrain AND e-Tolls.

e-Tolls? Yup.. it is more of a deterrent to shape traffic much like surge pricing on Uber and peak energy pricing on electricity.. ie force users to comply to more manageable models.

There is a LOT of global studies that say that no matter how much you expand roads, the population will grow/use more of it till congested. The whole point of the toll system is make mass transit more appealing (ironically people disobeying road laws does this) self sufficient.

Of cause this is without failures such as the idiots at Gautrain modeling services as a premium instead of mass transit & limiting terminals too much especially in Sandton City (hopefully they fix going forward at a premium being underground). Places where there is wide adoption of rail has pricing that is significantly cheaper.. not quite what SA business people understand, yet Gautrain remains widely used for now. I still think they need to rip seating arrangements and drop pricing by 50% and Airport by 75%. But that’s me.. if they can’t guarantee me a decent seat at their premium they shouldn’t be allowed to charge what they are.

so according to this guys logic, if you ripped up all freeways, and made them only a single lane, in each direction.

you would force people to all cram into the death traps known as taxis?
or cram, japan style into trains?

you would solve traffic, as the roads would never work?
and human nature would take care of the rest?

find that hard to belive, but if that solves traffic, I suppose people will go with it.
