Here are the areas where you can get Vodacom fibre

Very pricey. Way too little data for what you pay.

yes and no. I'm in high riding estate. We're 15km from somerset west. It would cost us 20 bar to roll our own. In light of that im happy paying a few hundred rand a month more than what i might get in CBD.

my choices are : stay on 4mbs adsl with bad infrastructure and pay ~800 a month for it, or pay R1800 a month for 100mbps 200gb fibre line, its really a no brainer for me.

there are no other choices - if there were then things might be different

I live in Aquila and would sign up tomorrow for the 200gb package, if they only clarify what streaming service will be provided. Its supposed to be a 'triple play' package, with video on demand included. If its a solid Netflix type service, which doesnt contribute to your cap, the price is actually pretty good. But so far, I still have not had any real answers from Vodacom.

Here's the details they're sending residents for Vodacom FTTH:

What are the advantages?

1. Improved security for your estate.
2. Improved cell phone signal, guaranteed 4G/LTE at the premises where Vodacom Fibre is installed.
3. Extremely fast internet speeds, up to 100mb/sec.
4. Free equipment (CPE Router, ONT)
5. Free installation
6. No setup costs (if signed up before installation)
7. No activation fee
8. Free 25GB Cloud storage for personal multimedia and documents

Included in all packages:

1. Line rental for fixed voice services
2. Connection equipment
3. Data
4. Vodacom IP-TV

Value added Services included:

1. Ability to integrate Live TV over fibre. No more signal loss because of bad weather
2. No need for excessively large data caps, as streaming VOD (video on demand) services do not use your data allocation
3. Health and Educational portals, grade 4 to 12
4. Online gaming
5. Access to home security HD monitoring
6. Access to home automation
7. You will never be disconnected, all packages are only soft capped with top-ups available at R7/GB

Now obviously, I have issues with the above.

1. This doesn't directly affect security in the estate. So not really an advantage.
2. There's no Service Level Agreement anywhere to be found. So no guarantees on that 100mb/sec.
3. They charge R899 for installation - if you miss the initial free install period and a R899 re-connection fee if you miss a monthly payment. They also charge cancellation fees on the contract you sign. No mention of contract durations.
4. Vodacom IP-TV hasn't even launched yet.
5. I highly doubt that all VOD services are free and there's no mention of specific mention of providers such as Netflix so this probably only applies to Vodacom IP-TV (if it ever launches)

Clifton Hills Estate

I know the guy running this project in the estate; unless something's changed recently, this project has stalled from Vodacom's side and they're shopping around for alternate providers. Excellent news, as since the deal was inked a year+ ago, there's been competition and there are FAR better partners out there now.

Edit: just confirmed that they've just started taking orders but not started installing yet, so something has changed recently :)

So their using this to extend their coverage, yet cannot subsidize more? Wow.

I don't see Secunda on that list...

Pray tell! I'd love to see Secunda on the list but see no indication on the Vodacom site of even potential deployment. Do you know of any plans for this area?

Bummer. And in a moment of weakness my hopes were raised. Back to reality.

I wish big companies would focus more on giving internet via wireless connections (WISP). Day or night I get 5ms ping to google and 230ms average ping to a US/EU game server. My 5mbps package gives 510KB/s up to 590KB/s at R899 a month.
