Here is why DStv with Netflix and Amazon Prime is a winning play

"By bundling streaming services with DStv, users will be forced to continue to pay their DStv subscription to keep their Netflix service." LOL

Need context on that statement. It could mean many things, for example.

1. You can only get Netflix in SA via Multichoice - ie the agreement would block individuals from independently subscribing to Netflix or...
2. That to use the DSTV decoders with Netflix you will need a subscription with Multichoice, an account independently from Netflix will not work with the decoder.

And by DSTV bundling streaming services MyBB will be forced to stop including internet access in future price/value comparisons. :)

This is uncompetitive behavior that the Competition Commission should seriouly look into. Dstv is a dying horse. I enjoy my streaming services from around the world and there is so much value for my bugs that I hardly have time for repititive horse such as Dstv. Viewers are cutting the cord wolrd wide and this satellite horse still clings to archaic technology.

What part of this is uncompetitive? And to who?

Not if they keep charging the same for Dstv as they do. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I think MC is targeting those less tech savvy consumers with this who obviously couldn't be bothered with the technical side of things, they just want to plug and play. It is however worrying that this could lead to competitors not being able to bundle those apps with their offerings should they wish to do so.

Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised by Disney+. Turns out they included a lot more content than what I anticipated. It'll be interesting to see how they grow into the Marketshare.

DSTV is about as relevant as listening to the radio.

In what world would anybody be that daft? it will just be a convenience thing whereby they already have Dstv because of sport etc and having netflix and amazon prime on one device is just convenient.

Almost all people that pay 1k a month for DSTV know that they can buy a Android box for 1k and have netflix running on it.

When has any product from Multichoice ever just been plug and play? It always installers, Heartbeat cables and special LNB's just to have 2 or 3 tv's in your house with DSTv?

They can really take a look at a Apple TV box or Android Tv to see how easy setup should be. Plug two cables in your TV and use your iPhone to setup your box. Not even necessary to type a single password if your phone can provide it to the Apple Tv.

Just about never. Each release of a new decoder came with endless installation issues, lack of information, and a restriction of information to the so-called "accredited installers".

Just about every single time, a change to the basic install was required, with endless silly arguments about antenna sizes and types of LNB's.
