Here is why Nvidia's new RTX 30-series graphics cards are so expensive in South Africa

I'm kinda concerned this is more about 20 range stock local retailers calculated a massive profit margin on but never sold. The prices will go down but this is pretty much pocketing in on losses imo.

too many things seem skelm here, like this magician guy in a hat.

quoting retail prices as their cost with their ludicrous import costs.

i say thee nay.

theyre quoting mad prices to soften the skelm moves later.

They probably artificially inflate the prices to try and sell and mitigate losses on old stock (2080ti's).

Excuses. US prices already include shipping and duties. VAT can't make up a 50% markup. Also the RRP is just that and not a "starting from" figure. So how is it that that's usually the price or even less but locally they all seem to take this as their base cost.

Import all the way - already have my eyes set on when the cards start showing up on amazon. I understand theres going to be a mark-up locally, but like Tolla said "jy maak nie sambreel in n man se hol oop nie" - thats whats happening here.

Eitherway i feel 3060 will be more than enough for my rendering needs and by oct/nov shipping restrictions will hopefully be bit more relaxed. Just in time to pay what I should, instead of paying what im forced to.

So it's basically going to be cartel pricing behavior for the local industry on graphics cards.

Yeah thats what i also thought until SARS started asking me for my Importers Code in June. I think its free to get but just a shlep of queues and paperwork, i will rather just wait for the new year before i order again

As far as I am aware there is no or minimal once off charge for an import number application, and there is no recurring costs or renewal. It's mainly for control to check if you are licensed to import certain things like electronics vs firearms. So apply once and keep forever.

Yeah, why does myBB keep referring to them?

Err... because they were one of two retailers who posted RTX 30-series prices online?

People were quite happy with us mentioning Evetech when they were the only retailer with indicative pricing up and everyone railed against them for how high the prices were.

Now that other retailers have similar prices up and more nuanced information is coming out, suddenly they need to be removed from the reporting?

/cc @Nemoneiros

Heh, I was Googling around and found a pulled listing from ComputersOnly that has the RTX 3080 for R99,999 .

(I also see that RebelGaming and Gear Here are now listing prices too.)

That is correct from what I understand, thank you
I'm just very lazy
And maybe that's a good thing coz up until June/July I have ordered 11 times in my drunk state.
