Here's why NASA is ramming a spacecraft into an asteroid

And what do you think the reason for that is? Because they are impossible to spot or because we only spend a tiny amount on monitoring the sky?

The US Defense Dept tracks 27 000 objects in near earth orbit. Don't you read the links I post?

Oh, they are. I don't know if you were. I wasn't addressing NASA on here. I was addressing you...
Once again I'm not following a word you're saying. Because you initially said:
Yes, in a few months' time the deflection of the asteroid will be known. If it was heading for the planet, a head on collision by a puny rocket is not going to stop or deflect it.

F = ma
Which would seem to indicate you don't think NASA are aware of Newtons laws etc. in their calculations and attempts.

Even a small impact could significantly change the path of an asteroid if done early enough. A tiny change to the path of the asteroid could mean huge changes over a big enough distance.
You would think that someone who claims to have been in the military would understand this. If you start out your mission and your heading is out by 0.1deg you could miss your mission objective altogether. Small change has a big impact over distance.

I would hazard a guess that the NASA engineers are some leaps and bounds beyond the F=ma basic shyte that CD has quickly swotted up on on Wikipedia.

Actually high school physical science. That's how basic the misunderstanding of physics is on this forum...

Ja. His implication is that NASA has failed to do any calcs of their own and that they know sweet bugger-all about Newton's laws.

Yeah, thats generally about the level of physics understanding you are showing us all here...

And even then, not matric level... Maybe grade 9 or 10.

0.1 degree on earth would have you miss by quite a distance over a few hundred km...

0.000001 degree could have you miss by thousands of kms over a few million km

Well, he thinks it will be a head on collision, which makes absolutely no sense what so ever. At best the impact will be perpendicular.

Well technically it could all be explain by e=mc2 as well you know...

No, it can't.

But tell me about orbital dynamics - Why didn't all those huge impacts which left some visible craters on the moon, not knock it out of earth's orbit then?

I gather CD is at his best again, full of arrogant superior knowledge. He just never stops trying to prove that he is better than everyone else.

Seeing he is such an expert on space technologies, he should explain why the small little "rockets" on a satellite are so effective in their station-keeping role.

Science is always about testing and experimentation.
I've never met an expert like CD. He is truly one of the greatest minds of our time. The amount of fields he has in depth knowledge about is staggering. He is even close to being a miracle worker. He can diagnose mental disorders of people he never even met. Astrophysicists and aerospace engineers have a photo of him on his desk, such is the reverence he receives from other highly qualified experts. Politicians aspire to be like him. His sense of fashion creates new trends.

Truly the most humble person on this planet.

What a great example.

That's direction, not deflection.

Fsck me, this just gets better and better..

Its ok Guys, I've let the DART team know that Cosmik has invalidated their experiment. They're a bit bummed that they didn't think of F=ma up front (so obvious that it got overlooked)... they're all looking for new jobs at Wendys.

Of course it can... e=mc2 explains everything.

Don't forget he had a meeting with the entire PEC of the NC about 8 years ago... he is even that important in SA.
