Here's why NASA is ramming a spacecraft into an asteroid

How long have we actually been spending any amount of money to search for them? Saying we have only ever detected five previously is just silly if we haven't been investing serious money and manpower into searching for them.

You don't read what I post to you, do you? For the third time now:

Orbital Debris and Human Spacecraft. More than 27,000 pieces of orbital debris, or "space junk," are tracked by the Department of Defense's global Space Surveillance Network (SSN) sensors. Much more debris -- too small to be tracked, but large enough to threaten human spaceflight and robotic missions -- exists in the near-Earth space...

What does repeating this irrelevant piece of info achieve for you?

Yes. Why are you going off topic now? My qualifications and skills are not up for debate as I did not make the same claims you did about orbital dynamics.

Determining your level of knowledge. Exactly as has been asked of me.
What claims did I make?

And what would that prove? Computer science does not make me an expert on orbital dynamics. No, we asked what level of knowledge you possess to be answering as though an expert.

One example is your claim that everything is simply F = ma

That is classical mechanics which does not simply explain all universal phenomena.

Tracking 27 000 pieces of Debris in earth and near earth orbit is not the same as tracking objects in the wider solar system.

As stated in the OP:

Scientists have identified most of the gigantic asteroids that could wipe out the planet, and none of those known objects pose a threat.

What they’re worried about is the thousands of smaller asteroids similar in size to Dimorphos, flying in space near Earth that could one day cross its path.
