What would you be able to care about after you die?
Nothing, but I will care about the future of humanity while I am still alive... You have talked about your kids on this forum , would you be okay with the thought of them not living a full and happy life after you have passed on?

I have no power whatsoever to intervene in the lives of my children after I die. So why should I bother about the future of humanity after my death while I'm alive?

If you cannot convince yourself to care about the future of humanity I very much doubt I can convince you.. You do you but I think most people with a empathy would want humanity to continue after they have died.

Why? Humanity is doomed to extinction like all life forms are.

Does that mean we shouldn't try and delay that extinction as long as possible?

Where exactly are you going with this? Your posts seem like your Sunday afternoon is boring and now you are just trolling.

Landing on the moon falls within the realm of physics. DNA evolving into pure energy does not. That is biology, not physics and few biologists would even entertain the possibility.
I don't necessarily agree with him but remember landing on the surface of the moon would have been regarded SciFi many many many millennia ago. The concept of "science" didn't even exist but here we are today, with our creations on the farthest reaches of the solar system.

Why should we try to delay humanity's extinction? It's inevitable. Every life form goes extinct when the circumstances it is built to cope with change. Extinction is inevitable. Your concern for humanity is a form of narcissism and superiority.

The rest we depend on to live can die. No concern from you there. But humanity? Oh no, it has to live on...

Lol, I would have said that your lack of concern for other people is a sign of narcissism.

Ideally I would like all life on earth to live on in some form or the other not just humanity. But you are clearly just spoiling for an argument so I will leave you to it, maybe you can find someone else to entertain you, I'm out.

I have concern for others. I just have no concern for a species called humanity. Big difference.

Ideally I would like all life on earth to live on in some form or the other not just humanity. But you are clearly just spoiling for an argument so I will leave you to it, maybe you can find someone else to entertain you, I'm out.

Which part of everything becomes extinct don't you understand? I deal in reality, not emotion.

It's a human trait. Everything we do is for benefit of humanity. That includes how we treat pets, etc.

How do I scientifically prove anything on a forum? Are you drunk posting again?
At the very least you can post a link to a paper where research was done that proves your point. Empirical evidence is clearly not your strong point.

Actually, if you break it down fully, everything you do is for yourself. The fact that co-operation with others makes life easier for all doesn't mean you do what you do for humanity.

To prove you care so much for humanity, give everything you own away to the lesser fortunate. Bet you won't.

Just 2 "relatively" recent examples, Tunguska and Chelyabinsk, both which never actually impacted the Earth(disintegrated or exploded above it high in the atmosphere), yet caused large scale devastation on the ground. Imagine the loss of life if an asteroid similar in size( 20-100m) to those 2 hit a populated urban area.

I applaud the efforts, however theoretically rare these events might be, it could be a huge life saver one day if they manage to successfully deploy the technology.
If you don't try, you'll never succeed.

So what? There are several near misses by asteroids every decade. And none were detected until far too late.

The Vredefort dome with the towns of Vredefort and Parys in it is an impact crater. The geology shows it to be as is Meteor Crater in Arizona and all those on the moon:

Jupiter got hit by a comet. How many billion people can Jupiter's moon support and who decides who will be going?

And how many billions millions thousands hundreds tens of people were killed?
All of them speak to my point, they are solving a problem that doesn't exist..
