Can anyone tell me why Heroes of Might and Magic is overheating my CPU. Ihave a 2.66 celeron with 768MB of RAM and a radeon 9200 pro 128MB which should be well over minimum requirements for the game but I cant play for much more than 30 minutes before my PC crashes and wont start till it cools down.
Thanks
Nick
other guys might be able to confirm this, but I don't think the CPU is causing the crashing. a slowdown and alarm beeps are symptoms of an overheating intel CPU. Intel CPU's start to underclock themselves when hitting 75C. I think the problem is more likely the motherboard overheating, or maybe the graphics card.
If your PC has got a 12cm fan mounting at the back, a 12cm case fan should solve your problem. If not, getting a case with one is what you need to do. These days plenty of PC's are sold with pathetic 8CM fans. The larger 12cm move more air and are much quieter. A very good case to get would be the Antec SLK3000. It is just a case without a power supply, so your not wasting money. It is a bit expensive, bit it is one of the best cooling cases available. Expect to pay about R500-R600.
As for recommending heatsinks and fans the best would bet get the following:
Zalman Zalman Zalman. the Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu should set you back about R250 but drastically improve CPU cooling. But even with a great heatsink, you need a large case fan to remove the hot air.
How to prevent this problem in the future, Stay away from Intel Celeron and Pentium 4 processors. AMD's run Far cooler and are a bit faster.
