Hello everyone.

I was wondering whats the speeds you guys get +- when you download torrents etc, on a 384k and 512k?

Thanks for all your help in advance :)

it depends on peers, seeds, int, local, shaping, lots of variables. it's hard to say.

Wish i could get that speeds! I'm on adsl 384 and have never been over 10kb/sec on any of the torrent programs. Tried opening ports etc. but still no luck. Weird thing is that a friend downloads the same torrent with the same software and he gets close to line speed.

put your router in Bridge mode and forward all your ports - you'll get full speed. many people don't know this. using the settings Telkom techies leave you with in general are terrible and will give you terrible download speeds.

Bridge Mode

search the forums for 'bridge mode' :)

What would you recommend? Thought of getting a Linksys, but looking for one with build-in modem.

You dont need to forward your ports if you use bridge mode since its a direct connection to the internet, but it also means that it will bypass your routers firewall so you need to get yourself a good software firewall.

Im on 384K line and i get around 35kbs for local on average, international goes around 20kbs, but thats probably IS to blame

on some routers you have to forward the ports too. i can't explain though.

Dont forget, some torrent programs limit ur download if ur upload is too low. I use Utorrent and if my uplaod is under 10kbyte, then my download is limited~
So try unlimit ur upload for a while, and u might see an increase in ur speed
