I've just done a basic "strings" through their word doc, and found the following line, "hidden" in the raw document data.

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">This is factually incorrect and I suggest we remove it as they also supply dedicated and contended services.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

Wonder who they were talking about there, and what they removed. That bit seems to be lost...

If they can't even operate MS-Office in a secure way, what chance do they have on a network [:D]

Hint to Snetech: Use OpenOffice and export to PDF before mailing!

I've found a few gems by using a UNICODE strings utility (sysinternals.com)

So, SteenC wrote the orignal, and Maureen Mphatsoe just blatantly pirated it as the "document to shut journalists up with".

And winston made a comment along the way.

Lovely.

This hidden text reminds me of one supplier of ours who imports seed. They distribute a wholesale pricelist in Excel Format. I wanted to edit their file so as to add order quantites etc. As I couldn't modify the Excel Document, I then copied the whole document into a new Excel Document. Lo and Behold when I copied the contents over to the new document all the hidden information was pasted over. Every detail of their complete pricing structure was open for my view.
They got a call from me enquiring about the high forward cover of R9.50 that was been applied. The other details I will keep private.

Rodent, would steenc be the Carin Steenkamp mentioned here :
http://www.savant.co.za/home.asp?PID=222&ToolID=2&ItemID=709

Of note in this article is the following which contrasts sharply with their latest stance on 128,256 & 512 being a product name and NOT an indication of bandwidth:

Sentech has announced its plans to provide wireless broadband services to consumers and businesses in three stages, starting with MyWireless 128. Two faster versions of the wireless offering, with bandwidths of 256kbps and 512kbps, aimed at small- to medium-sized enterprises, will be rolled out in the following months.

Don't you just love google LOL

Interesting from that article:
“The service will be competitively priced compared to what people are used to paying for traditional analogue dial-up Internet access,” says Smith.
Users can expect speedy connections because My Wireless is what is called a contended service, which means the number of people able to use the system at the same time is limited.

“There is no usage capping either, which means that you can send and receive as much Internet traffic as you like without paying extra,” says Smith.

So, supposing I sell a hard drive, and advertise it as a 100gig jobbie.

In real life, it only has 20gig capacity.

But I turn around and say the 100gigs is a product name only, and in no way reflects on the actual capacity of the drive.

I'm going to get my arse handed to me on a plate.

By designating a product as a 100meg hard drive, or a 512meg memory stick, or a 20 inch monitor, I'm not just stating a product name, but what the hell the thing actually is.

Imagine buying a 20 inch pure flat monitor, and inside the box is a crappy 14 inch amber screen?

Crap and more crap.

Well I don't know where they get this "128, 256, 512 is not a speed just name" crap from. If you go to their site and check the products "description/pricing" it shows that MyWi 128 - speed 128Kbs, MyWi 256 - speed 256Kbs etc. I've sent my request to cancel my service so I'm just waiting for the response.

I'm at a loss for words ... the more we poke this putrid mess that is Sentech the more rank the incompetance exposed.

They CAN only function in an environment where they are protected by laws that are costing this country's future development. They would be eaten alive in a competitive environment!

This is such an obvious example of why telco competition is what the ZA consumer needs, not more dead treas with little symbols on them issued by the government.

Going to quote that on shfs [}:)]

They can argue that they did not say it. It appears inbetween Winston's quotes, not actually as part of it, so it could've been the reporter.

The directors on Sentech's board must be dying of embarrasment right now.
To officially attempt to retract their marketing hype at this time indicates that the growing negative publicity regarding the speed issues is beginning to hurt them.

Keep up the good work.

yes, poke and poke until they die. telkom must really be enjoying this. i wonder if this would have been the situation if the underground SAT cable was open to all. there seems to be a bandwidth bottleneck somewhere and i'd be willing to bet my left nut telkom has something to do with it.

btw, im on 56k so i'm not choosing sides here. i do however hate telkom. with all my soul.

I'm a new user on this forum, but I've been watching comments from all with great interest and not a little admiration for all concerned.....erm....I do not regard Sen-ile-tech as being concerned about anything except their nice cushy government (taxpayers') salaries.

Anyhows, my main reservation on all of this talk of "acceptable usage" is that Sen-ile-tech quotes "excessive usage by some", as compared to "normal usage by most" as being a measure of unacceptable usage. Do we get to see properly audited statistics on this, or are we expected to accept the same faecal matter as when they state that only about 5% of their subscribers have reported speed problems (almost 6000 tickets means almost 120000 subscribers....I didn't realise they were so popular!).

I cannot, for one minute, believe that there's anybody out there who subscribes to Sen-ile-tech just to get his/her email and buy lotto tickets twice-weekly.
