So this weekend I went phone hunting didn't want some thing expensive but still wanted some thing that can kick butt if it needed to.

I usually try all the big name brands, decided meh what is the point, I have a decent tablet for all the other things why not get a basic phone that makes and receive calls, can do a whatsmabob and vleisbook.

I was pretty surprised at just how much choice there actually is below 1K, looked at the vodacom steppa. Set out to get a phone with 1gig ram, quad CPU and at least 8gb internal memory any thing below that isn't worth the time and effort.

I got more then I bargained for with the hisense U601s, decently build phone, screen is pretty decent it does compared to the high end models, so pretty standard for a entry level phone I wasn't expecting a HD screen any ways.It comes with android 6.0, which is really a bonus.

The down sides are the smaller battery and it doesn't have the notification led that I have come custom to on samsung galaxy phones, so you have to check the phone every now and then to make sure you didn't miss any thing, the audio isn't great either, did a couple of video calls as well, the camera is decent but it doesn't adjust for poor or bright lights. Not sure you really need dual sim I guess if you have a stukkie on the side it may be useful.

Otherwise I am impressed, that you can get a niceish phone for less then a grand, I also like Android Marshmallow I just hope it allows for upgrades.Oh and where the samsung struggled to get signal I get signal even 3G with the hisense while not full signal, it's still decent.

I like the phone so far, the 1GB RAM and 8GB storage is certainly a cut above the rest in this segment, but that is probably because the supply of 512MB/4GB SOCs are running out. From the design you can you see this phone came out with KitKat and they have simply bumped it up to always be 2 releases behind. It runs Marshmallow smoothly. The actual pixel count of the camera on the back is 1.3mp, anything shot at a higher resolution is just interpolated. Mine came with a protective cover in the box but I had to use a screen protector from a Vodafone Smart 4 Mini.

Mine is also still rocking, yeah the camera doesn't bother me one bit, have a proper camera any ways :D. After having used it for a while now, the only complaint is the battery is a bit on the weak side, 2500 would have been better.

The previous model was kitkat which was 601, has 512/4gig ram, some stores still selling the older model.I don't think you will get any thing better for the price bracket, same price bracket vodascum only 512/4gig models, shellc some crap I don't know, MTN had the better selection of phones in that bracket, on the higher end scale 2k, vodacom had the better selection, go figure.
