My kids were going to go there in a few years....thank fuk we're leaving next year.
My one was going to go there last year as it's the closest school to both mine and the wife's offices.

To be honest I didn't even know who the **** DF Malan was!

What changed our minds was the fact that they're an Afrikaans only school and I suspect that is going to change soon as well.

Where is your evidence that Paton and Suzmann were communists?
They had places named after them when a left leaning socialist regime took over from a right leaning socialist rigeme..... what did they have in common with Slovo?

We all know that DF Malan never built that school, we just have to find te descendants of those who did and give them the honour.
Not what he said. If you build it..... You get to name it. Not named after you.

Yeah, It still doesn't make a difference, those who built it are probably long dead, the honour should go to their descendants, I promise I will accept if the name it DF Malan.

It is a top government school, not an 'elitist'-class school like Bishop, SACS, etc. or have the honours bestowed on them like some gymnasiums, but are consistently good at education, sports, etc. Sending your kid to the school, and your kid is willing to be educated, you know that your kid will be properly educated.

I hold Parel Vallei in the same view.

To quote the article,

"The school community has indicated that they would like… to work on symbols that better represent what we stand for in ways that can inspire our community and with which they can better identify. We are therefore now ready to change the name of the school in a way that better symbolises the identity and history of the school," Roux said.

The school stated that it is their community who wants the change, whatever the changes will entail it will better symbolise the school's identity and history, but it seems more to me that they want to change the identity by removing the history.

I do believe that it will be more than a name change.

I am all for changing the school name. It should have been done years ago. Apartheid leaders have no place in our democracy.

As long as they keep the name Afrikaans as it is an Afrikaans medium school (for now).

Nah, they are going to change the school's identity. I can see them change the whole shebang. The school is going to adapt a dual-medium (which is good), but aligned with the new curriculum. Being said in pure speculation, but I am sure that there was more to their consultation process than a mere name change.

The Alumni may disagree, but the public will appreciate.

I doubt they will change it to dual medium. This school apparently has over 1000 learners. That's enough to keep it an Afrikaans school. Usually when the learners dip below 600 is when the school need to change to dual medium.
