My one was going to go there last year as it's the closest school to both mine and the wife's offices.
To be honest I didn't even know who the **** DF Malan was!
What changed our minds was the fact that they're an Afrikaans only school and I suspect that is going to change soon as well.
It is a top government school, not an 'elitist'-class school like Bishop, SACS, etc. or have the honours bestowed on them like some gymnasiums, but are consistently good at education, sports, etc. Sending your kid to the school, and your kid is willing to be educated, you know that your kid will be properly educated.
I hold Parel Vallei in the same view.
To quote the article,
"The school community has indicated that they would like… to work on symbols that better represent what we stand for in ways that can inspire our community and with which they can better identify. We are therefore now ready to change the name of the school in a way that better symbolises the identity and history of the school," Roux said.
The school stated that it is their community who wants the change, whatever the changes will entail it will better symbolise the school's identity and history, but it seems more to me that they want to change the identity by removing the history.
I do believe that it will be more than a name change.
