Get ready to kiss green ID books goodbye

Department of Home Affairs (DHA) deputy director general Thulani Mavuso says it expects to phase out South Africa's green ID books in the next two years.

Speaking to 702, Mavuso noted that the department doesn't have a set timeline but is targeting 38 million smart IDs before discontinuing the green ID book.

You wrote the headline wrong. It should be:

South Africa Will Be Kissing Green ID Books Goodbye

Ok cool so 10 years+. I still have time.

10 Years as a minimum, I think more like 30-50 years, but even then...

My green ID is likely to decompose before DoHA manages to get this right

What do you mean? They've been doing the Smart ID forever and a day it's an already existing process so there's nothing to fail here.

It's as simple as not accepting the green one any more by the deadline and everyone will have to get the Smart ID.

DoHA will have to get their IT system operating properly, have no more 6 hour queues to get in the front door, then they can get there.

But then I would not put it past them, not accepting the Green Bar coded ID document, tomorrow, and shooting themselves in both feet, and then commiting suicide, when the consequences fall on them

MyBB getting like Dstv, repeating articles. We still need the mandatory 2 Multichoice/Dstv articles today.
Shows you how stupid MC think people are.
They still honestly believe the middle-to-upper class are just being difficult by not subscribing to their offerings, so they go onto a tech forum such as this one and peddle their rubbish here twice a day. They're just wasting their money but I guess they will rather do that then give it to SARS.

I did all of this in like 30min a few months ago.

The systems are already in place it’s just a case of mandating a cut off for people to go do the thing.

Besides having all the banks as branches as well.

All the banks - all 30 branches in Guateng and Western Cape and fekk all in between. It is only 30 because DoHA systems are inadequate.

Which is 30 more in each region than without them.

This thing has been coming for years, surely most people already have them so it’s just catching the difference.

Still can not apply for ID or passport through the Banks or at Menlyn Pretoria DOH offices. Have to go to Cullinan because was not born in SA although Walvisbaai in Namibia was prevouisly part of SA

Ya nee

No ****ing way am I going to stand in a Homo Affairs queue to replace my Green ID book. I tried twice via banks in KZN and it's impossible.

It still requires using the disaster that is ehomeaffairs.

It is impossible to go to a bank anywhere in the Free State, and apply for your ID Card, as none exist, with the ability - thank you DoHA.
