The system is down — IT downtime hurting Home Affairs more than load-shedding

System downtime contributes more lost operating hours at Home Affairs offices than load-shedding.

This is according to home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi, who was responding to parliamentary questions from Democratic Alliance MP Adrian Roos.

You won't believe how many Home Affairs officials have inverters and generators at home...

But you are correct the Home Affairs network is dated, wonky, and unstable and falls over when anyone sneezes.

Over and above real network downtime, I would like to know how many of these outages are due to a staff member pulling the LAN cable when they are too tired or too lazy to work any further from 08:50 the morning.

See @Fuzzbox comment below yours. I'm willing to bet half the companies getting network contracts for SITA never installed a network since they existed which will be about 1 month prior to the tender date if you check on CIPC..
