Thought up by the gloriously incompetent cANCer so it will fail and they'll call it a success because criminals have undermined the system.

Only works for South African Citizens. Too bad if you are a Permanent Resident and lose your ID book!

People don't go to home affairs for fun, the go because they HAVE to go. They're still going to have to deal with the same volume of people.

The booking slots are just going to move farther and farther out if they allocate them according to "capacity" or if they scale to demand then there will still be queues.

Just fix the **** up, don't add yet another step in the process that will also be a **** up.

Can you just imagine, each HA office will get the ability to determine their capacity, so they'll just under report by 50% (at best) and hope to have nice quiet days...

And some offices will just deny all "walk ins" because they're fully booked, while the fsckers play Solitaire on the computers.

just another delusional idea by incompetent people.

like the UBC to travel with a child into the country.
ideas come into their heads, but they barely understand what a mess it will create.

hey, y'all voted for them, enjoy!

@Jan, please correct the following sentence in the article: "eHomeAffairs allows citizens to apply for their Smart ID and passport online". Only citizens born in SA are allowed the system. SA citizens born abroad and naturalised SA citizens aren't allowed to use the system.

??? Are you seriously saying that SA citizens born abroad and naturalised SA citizens don't have SA citizenship?

Home Affairs' new online booking system — what to expect

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has announced a new appointment system to combat corruption and long queues at its offices.

The new appointment system will be linked to the national population register, allowing individuals to use their ID number to request a slot.
The same crap system used by the EVDS and Driver Licence system? Well, we know how well those systems have stood up to corruption and failures.

Well according to HA they can't get a card ID, so they're technically a second grade citizen.

Any plans to fix the incompetence, lack of emotion and general desire to work?

Interesting to note that people that can't access the system will be allowed to just show up (which is fine), but then there is no point in an online system surely?
