Good news for getting your smart ID card or passport at a bank branch

Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber wants to strengthen the relationship between his department and the private sector, including banks that support the eHomeAffairs service for smart ID card applications and passport renewals.

The eHomeAffairs project has remained in a limited piloting phase for about eight years since former minister Malusi Gigaba first rolled it out in October 2016.

There is ZERO GOOD NEWS until we actually see more branches and especially Capitec. It seems to be the same old list from years ago, with promises month after month about more to come. I'm actually getting tired of opening these lists as I've seen no change.

As they say mate, a new broom and all that.

And include PRs and Nuturalised citizens.
We also pay tax and employ people

A senior cadre at HA told me there were so few (of these) that it made no difference

This is a tacit admission that the official offices are still plagued with criminals running scams and doing the ‘system offline’ ruse to cover laziness and incompetence.

Yup, getting Home affairs into some Capitec branches will be a game changer.

Or the queue is snaking around the block but we take in only 20 people at a time, every hour. If you can't stand long periods, you need to rent a seat outside and sit in the sun, lest you have sunblock.

Solving, the system is slow issue, hopefully will speed up the queue issue.

Not just the "system is offline" issue, but the "system is slow" issue as well.
It's the same thing. I'm sure all these branches are still on 1Mbps adsl. Get in proper fibre connections and a backup solution. I don't know why something that should be as simply as buying a broom should go through a government tender where it's centrally selected.

Way, the Cadres can eat the most.

Again not focusing on the core problem. Banks are not the solution.
Fix the bloody HA infrastructure and the people working there. Do your job instead of delegating the work to banks.
