R33,070,630 was spent in the 2018/2019 financial year, with another R8,956,713 spent since.

Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi confirmed that R8,956,713.41 has been spent on charter flights and/or airlines by his department to deport undocumented migrants for the period April 1 to August 31 this year.

Before this, for the 2018 to 2019 financial year, R33,070,629.90 was spent on flights for the deportation of undocumented migrants.

The minister made the revelations in a parliamentary reply to a question asked by DA MP Joseph McGluwa.

McGluwa asked Motsoaledi about the details of the charter flights and airlines as well as the total amount paid in respect of the deportations in both the 2018/19 financial year and since the start of April this year.

We'll probably start by asking how much money could be saved here if we actually enforced border control.

Porous borders biggest threat to domestic security in SA: new spy boss

South Africa’s porous borders are the number one threat to domestic security in the country, says newly appointed spy boss advocate Mahlodi Muofhe.

Muofhe is the new head of the domestic branch of the State Security Agency (SSA).

“The number one domestic threat is to ensure that our borders cease to be so porous. From all over the world there is a perception that our borders are porous … We need to ensure that those who come into our country, do so lawfully,” he told eNCA in an interview broadcast on Wednesday.

He said recent operations by law enforcement authorities saw the arrests of numerous undocumented people.

MOTSOALEDI: BORDER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY IS THE ANSWER TO MANAGING POROUS BORDERS

“The biggest problem that we are faced with in South Africa is the porous borders, that’s why we have so many undocumented people. People are coming here illegally, they don’t have to follow any law; whether it was passed by Parliament or not, they don’t care. So, the best thing to start with is to establish a border management authority.

How can illegal (undocumented) immigrants be a problem if they are not "white"?
We all know that everything is the "white man's" fault.

How many immigrants have they sent back?
I'd like to know the cost "per person" - What is it? R9000 a flight?! WTF!

What no one knows that no one went back. We all know that each nec member needs 1 million per transaction and there are 80 members (and only 40M available) so requisite criteria was not met.

Do you know when the most arrests happen for illegal immigrants? Nov,Dec because they want their free ticket home.

Was on an SAA flight. Two illegals in hand cuffs sitting with 2 or 3 immigration officials. The flight attendant told everyone not to be alarmed, as they were only illegal immigrants and not dangerous criminals on the flight.

In other words, the department paid for 4 or 5 plane tickets on this flight just to get rid of 2 illegals.

Besides the obvious financial difference - what is the difference between someone fleeing SA for better pastures elsewhere and someone coming to South Africa from the sh--tshow that is the rest of Africa for the exact same reason?

Would be interesting to see a breakdown by nationality of these being deported to see if there is a specific country that has the most. Then bill it to said countries embassy. :p

In some thread, it has been pointed out that there is a weight difference between the 2 categories. Fleeing SA are overweight apparently and coming to SA are undernourished. Needless to say that those fleeing SA multiply GDP of that other country whereas those coming here halve SA's GDP.

You don't think for one minute that the wealthy taking their money out have more negative impact on the economy than a poor person coming here? Especially as said poor person generally works their butt off and contributes to the economy on an ongoing and increasing basis?

Work out the maths if you can - rich person fleeing takes all their assets out diminishing the economy of SA by several million rands - poor person arrives, starts work, starts a small business, contributing their labour and income to the economy which increases year after year as they grow and thrive here? Who is having what impact?

Doesn't the amount include flight tickets and accommodation for officials accompanying them?

You must be new here.

Wealthy taking money out will have negative impact but that is not happening here. People are fleeing the country because of genocide and their land /flats are being equally distributed among anc nec.
