Home Affairs stats show green ID book can only be declared invalid in five years

Good news for people who have green ID books

Unless government makes dramatic changes, it will be at least five years before the old green ID book could be declared invalid, according to statistics revealed by Department of Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber.

Speaking to News24, Schreiber said the government can only invalidate the insecure green ID books when all South Africans have access to smart ID cards, adding that there are still around 18 million South Africans it must reach.

I am luckily South African and born in South Africa unlike my father who is neither but I don't plan on leaving behind the middle parting and pimply face photo in my green ID book anytime soon.

I have an ID book photo from when I was 10, look nothing like that now,
if confuses the hell out of casino workers and those algorithms for self verify.

I do wonder if they might introduce ID book renewal at some point, as peoples faces do change,

I just ask whomever has asked for my ID not to laugh, eases up the tension quite a bit, luckily besides a bit of gray hair and some wrinkles I still look like I am 21.

Ive changed quite a bit, look much older and meaner than what I looked all sweet and innocent at 10.

I wish I looked older and meaner, at any age, I constantly have this 'You must be joking because no one can be this stupid' look on my face. Probably why I got in to a few fights I didn't even know I was in when I was in my 20's and why I now win all my fights by at least 80 metres.
 
The green id book is made of dark matter. The more HA talks about it, the more relevant it becomes.

at least you dont get the "you cant possibly be the same person on this ID photo" look everytime I go to open an account, rent a car, or self verify via an app,

I think they can at least confirm my skin colour and my gender, although hearing my voice, they sometimes think I didnt hit puberty yet.

I honestly didn't put you down as being female but it makes sense now if you are Jewish with that high pitched voice :unsure:
