Me too. I have a setup that starts the VM about 8 minutes after the power has returned. The reason being by then my UniFi network, ISP connection and APs, Unifi controller and other iOT hubs are all up and then HASS doesn't complain about not finding things.

Works a treat.

For backup , I have a script that suspends the VM and copies it to another folder. Will update this post with the configs when I get time tomorrow
I also stagger startup because my pc is old and slow. Starting up HA, deepstack, Plex etc slows it down too much and can cause issues. Also had some problems with HA starting before the switches were on the network and then they missed their startup states.

I'm running Hass on a VM on a Windows machine. With load shedding the machine shuts off as it's not on a ups. This causes HA to break it gets stuck on autoboot- on the CLI.

Forces me to recreate the image and restore from snapshot. Is there any easier way to restore? How I can I create an autoclone job for the image everyevening and delete the old image
How about an automation that shuts down right before load shedding ?

I have that for a few load shedding problematic devices.

I have full house solar, but if that fails, also have a 600w secondary inverter with 100ah battery as backup inverter for the server cabinet. Keeps internet on 24/7 even through loadshedding including home assistant.

If house lose power, only non-network devices go down. Has happened actually. Had workers in the garden hit the power line to the outbuilding causing everything on backup side of solar to drop. Internet at least then kept going since both me and wife work from home. Backup is essential.

I treat loadshedding as power outages now. Its a given that it will happen.

How about getting a UPS?
Currently have a inverter for the router switch aps and cameras. I guess I should dump the PC on there and automate the shutting down once LS hits.

Did a new VM with a restore snapshot. Mosquito and Pai are broken. Need to fix that first.

Tailscale

Anyone used it very simple way to create a reverse VPN into your network.

Took 5 minutes and it works. This should negate the need for Duckdns and opening ports
Just set this up - so simple and works a charm - seems like i can cancel my Nabu Casa sub

Thanks for the plug @alqassam

This is amazing. Have always been put off by the whole DuckDNS process, this was easy to set up. Now I don't have to route through Telegram anymore. Thanks

Was previously using l2tp on Unifi but android 12 killed it and found this today.

Now I can login to my server at home and tinker while I'm supposed to be working.

Just being able to log into HA while away from home is a bonus. I have been adding some functionality to a Telegram bot but this is much better. Can also add my server PC I suppose?

Is it possible to add a Shelly dimmer to lights that are connected to 2way switches? There are downlights in the passage with a switch at each end, can I just add a dimmer or will I need to remove one of the switches?

Edit: I suppose as long as the switches stay on the dimmer won't know the difference? As long as nobody switches it off at the wall?
If it were me I would "rewire/reconfigure" how these switches work.
I know shelly and sonoff mini devices are designed to fit behind light switches, but i use none of mine that way, I prefer having them in the roof, they get better wifi reception and I can run cat 5 down to the switches.

I see no reason you cant have 2 "dimmer style" switches connected in parallel to a single shelly for 2 way switching, as long as the shelly is configure for One Button mode, the changes of both being in the "closed"pressed" state at the same time is very low and shouldnt have an effect either way, as they are closing the same circuit.

A modified connection diagram as for clarification

Yes just click the subnet option in the online portal.

As long as both switches are non-locking...
