"off topic".... how do you explain to S.O to troubleshoot if they have no clue how to look at errors in the logs or even look at code ?

My wife asked me how she is going to fix issues if something happens to me ?

PS: she doesn't know that 95% of the time is tinkering to improve or add more things

Turn it off and turn it back on again

All my smart things have a manual override. So if the network and or servers die; you can still turn on lights by using the light switch.

My biggest (only really) reliance on the cloud is solcast for solar forecast. Need to think of a plan to let the solar work normally without that...

I do my dynamic dns with cloudlfare, rarely have issues with it. Actually don't remember if I had ever an issue with it.

Anyone buy an iPad wall mounted enclosure that looks good but doesn’t cost a kidney like this

Check out Amazon. Much cheaper incl with import duties. We bought loads for our business from Amazon. Really well built too.

I was lucky enough to have an old door phone there, so basically powered it off the 220v in the conduit below.
Is it on constant charge? I have read that it can cause issues with the batteries after a while. Some people put the charger on a smart switch to keep the battery between 40-60% or similar.

Yeh, its on all the time - not really interested in the battery as it never comes off the wall.
