Hi,

Situation:
I just got the new Vox fat pipe 100gig package (what a deal!) and
I also have my free FnB ADSL uncapped account. At home I use the Mweb fon router
and I have on old raspberry pi lying around (the single core, 512 MB one).

Question:
I would like to use the VoX account during daytime and then switch automatically
to the FnB account at night (which is when I do my downloads). I have my raspberry pi
connected to the router via lan cable and its running raspbian.

The only way I know how to change the isp name and password is through the web
interface of the router. Do you think it will be possible to automate the switching of
accounts with my setup? How would you do it?

Looking forward to any other suggestions as well!

I'm thinking that, as the router has web interface, this should be possible with a webscript.

I did something similar quite a few years ago - http://www.naschenweng.info/2009/03/14/dsl-switching-improve-your-gaming/ - this was done on a Netgear modem router where I used a perl telnet library to connect and then flip the access-details based on time. Considering that I generally suck at anything to do with Linux scripting, I am sure that the download script will be shocking, but it works.

I would guess that 6 years later there might be better ways of doing it - but perhaps the above helps.

Buy the cheapest Mikrotik router you can and run PPPoE directly from the router. It can do this (and a whole lot more) for a few hundred bucks.
