Yep. Some good stuff on there. Great place. Smaller forum, but man, great people.

just to close this opened ended post;

i tried that beer making stuff this weekend, it's quite a bit of fun. i made a marzen
step mashed a simple grainbill consisting of pilsen,munich and cara clair, hitting 80% mash efficiency and my self designed recipe numbers on the nose. i bittered with perle and finished off with mittelfruh. decent balance and stylistically on point. pitched skare. whole thing took about 3 hours and it should be ready for the keg in about 10 days or so but i'll condition it a bit longer before carbing.
Before you go, where did you source this from?

I've come so close so often that I shudder to think how I will handle it. I will be heartbroken. Maybe I should lock it in a safe and start using a refractometer.

Cap fell off the little tube holder thing...

Now is a bad time to break one... Covid hiked the prices a lot.

Yip like R250, I'm in the middle of a Belgian quad that's getting stuck so had to suck it up and order one.

I always used to think "how do you break a hydrometer?" because you use it and store it, simple. Then one day I used mine, washed it, and placed it behind the kitchen sink to just dry off a bit. Next morning got there - broken in half. So something somewhere must have shifted and knocked it. Broken. Then I was like "yeah, that's how you break 'em".

I'm on my second (and third) hydrometer. Although I didn't break mine. Lent it to a friend who then promptly dropped on his first brew right after I explicitly told him to be careful with it. So he bought me two to replace the one. I also recently acquired a refractometer and I'm itching to use it, but I have to wait for payday before I can order malt.

LOL. The hydrometer was 4 days old.

Mine is close on 20 years old and was a gift from a dear, departed friend. It has sentimental value. I think I should put it in the safe but then said friend would not have given me a gift to use but rather a keepsake. So I have to use it.

Not exactly beer. But beer related. I bake as well and cultured some sourdough starter with a dash of midbust kveik and I have been growing the starter the last week (I make true sourdough with a 5 year old starter this was just an experiment) and baked this today!

Feedback on taste according to my wife one of the best loaves I have ever baked. Success!
