Hey all I dont want to go the full keg route but was wondering if someone does this?

Specifically at the 14min mark the one with C02. These 5l kegs are R70 and I though it might be nice to have them in the mix

Thoughts?

@Toxxyc would be able to give you feedback ... I think he has a couple (might even be "for sale")

Oooh @Toxxyc I summon your infinite advice!
Wanna buy my 5l mini kegs? I got three kegs - two brand new, and the Party Star Deluxe tapping device with some CO2 cylinders. They work, I'm just lazy to use them. Gotta carbonate them LOW or they foam up A LOT, but when they work they're an awesome party "trick", so to speak.

How good does the 5L kegs work with the Tapping Device? How well does the kegs work? Can you store beer in them and for how long?

It looks like it can make bottling day a lot easier.

TIA

I've stored beer in mine for a few months, at most. Haven't tested longer. So with the tapping device you seal the keg with a re-usable bung. The bung has a plastic "seal" that you punch through when you insert the tap's spear, which you then use to serve.

It makes bottling day quicker, as you tap about 4.5l into the keg in one go.

Like I said, you need to carbonate your kegs lower than bottles. Too much pressure and you dispense only foam (not nice). You get to tweak it though with different levels of carbonation and once you get it "dialed in" it works quite well. I haven't had issues with mine since I dialed it in. I'm selling purely because I'm a bit "over it" now.

Let me think about it as you also in the Pretoria area. Whats the highest carb level you would do volume wise? I want to see if it will work for the likes of a weiss for example

Uuuuh I don't know, to be honest. That's one thing I don't care for in my beers - high carbonation. I usually go for 90g of dextrose per 20l of beer when carbonating in the bottle, and when doing the kegs I go for 1/3 to 1/2 of that amount for the volume.

On the advice of @Toxxyc I've opted to support one of our local breweries during lockdown by purchasing 20l of a Session IPA wort which is bubbling away nicely. Next week I'll be adding 20l of Blonde ale.

Now I just have to remember to add the hops at the right time.

Try to find a cool spot in the house, it's warm here at the moment. If you need help ask on the WhatsApp Group or we can add you to the PE homebrew club group as well they are super helpful.

What's optimal temp? 24° is the best I can do today.

Awesome! dont leave your dry hopping too late, its best to get it in while fermentation is still active to self-purge the headspace.
I would absolutely love to support places like Richmond Hill brewery but Im not going to drive to PE to buy wort. We dont have any local craft breweries selling wort in EL so Im pretty jealous.

Depends on the yeast, 24 is the top end for something like US-05 but is still very mild for a Kveik strain.
Did you get the yeast from the brewery or was it bought separately?
