Okay, before I start this post I want to make it clear that I know little about beer, besidrs drinking it. So i made a batch of beer, after it was done I added a bot of sugar and bottled it, left it at 24 degrees for a secondary fermentation to get gas in it.

It has gas, it's obviously not clear. Problem is every bottle I open foams over. The gas isn't desolved properly. What am I l doing wrong? And it goes straight to my head, just had a glass and I can feel it. I'll test the alcohol content this coming week but i suspect it might be a bit high.

Can one of the mybb brewers explain their process to me please?

Cannot explain it any better than this vid - I watched it about 5 times to understand the whole process.

You likely added way too much sugar - use this as a guide

Thanks. I'll watch it tomorrow. I get the feeling it might help a lot. I used malt for the first batch, getting some grain from our small grains department next week so I'll try a new batch. I like beer but this I added too much malt for one, so it's big bodied but still lacks flavour for some reason, and I can't drink a lot without becoming completely hammered.

My 2 brews went from 1.052 to 1.006 in 5 days  Very strong alcohol taste. I will keep checking so that I might bottle on Sunday. Temps was 22 to 24 degrees

Well that's a great run. 5 days. My stout is still lingering at 1.020 - I am starting to think that those morgans kits have a major issue with their yeast. Next one I will use my go-to S04

Jip. I used S23 yeast on the last 2 Morgans.

I think I am going to leave it another week before I bottle them. Just to be safe.

Oatmeal stout is in the tub. Now I just have to make certain I've got enough empties before next week.

Ive done it a gazillion times in the past. But it's not easy. So through experience I have found is do not go to Checkers, PnP Tops or any other big place, find a smaller self run bottle store and go in and ask the manager you want to buy some empty cases with quarts.

It is super cheap, empty crate is R11 and a bottle is 91 cents

Yes there is some cleaning to be done, but it sure beats paying R6.60 for 1 empty lonely 440ml brown bottle !!!!!!!!

Thanks

But I'm really just making an excuse to drink more beer.

FWIW one of our brethren supplies me with empties for R25 per crate. :)

I figured I could just drink the ones I've got? I need to do something for the next week while I'm waiting...
That's what I used to do then I wanted or brew more so I'd decided rather have more bottles and let the batches age properly and not rush things along

 We have learnt to make homemade pizzas and beer during the 2020 pandemic

Ive dabbled in homemade biltong for last 2 decades, but just cannot get it 100%, we need to concentrate on this for 2021 :D Oh, and homemade cheese

Back in the early days, I got tired of bottling really quickly. The only way I could think of back then to cut my time was to eliminate corking. I did that by getting a few cases of Grolsch and drinking them over time and keeping that growler bottle. Even now, I have more grolsch bottles than crown bottles. In the long term, it is a happy strategy.

I had 35 crates of quart bottles. Some full, some half and the other empty. I got rid of about 10 the last few days. 6 to my neighbor for his beer and 4 to the bottle store.

I am going to rotate my Lion stock from now on. Buy 2 cases a week to replace the empties and check when I need bottles.

I currently have 11 full cases of Lion an 6 home brews with another 46 liter to bottle next weekend.

Do you buy the Lion because you like the beer or because you like the bottles?

Both. I cannot stand the taste of Castle or Black Label anymore.

I also have 36 Grolsch bottles that works perfect and 48 craft bottles. 440ml
