IODOPHOR!

Use 1ml per litre of water, and just mix it up whenever you need it. Put in spray bottle and spray everything before using.

It needs 5mins of contact time, but you don't need to soak stuff in it, as long as you wet it with the solution and leave it for 5mins it will work. No rinse of course.

Caustic for cleaning and peracetic acid for sanitizing.

Also used to use Iodophor, but got a friend that come to visit from US to bring me some "StarSan"

I prefer this over Iodophor & I'll definitely get some again when I run out in a couple of years (it goes a long way :) ) ... 30sec contact & no-rinse.
Other nice thing is, you mix a 5L solution & use it over & over for a couple of brews ;)

Ok, i am in love with pale ales. My second beer kit batch was an ipa. And have to say, i love the taste. Dry hopped it with pacific gem, for about 4 days, next time i'm going to do it for a week or more.

Waiting for my equipment, then i'll try an american ipa from extract with lots op hops, love the citrus aroma

Hi All,
I'm pretty much new to the whole brewing deal - haven't brewed a batch yet, but have done some research and getting the last bit of the equipment together this weekend. So I’m looking forward to brewing my first batch within the next few weeks.

Has anyone attended Beerlab’s classes? I was fortunate enough to receive a voucher to attend a partial mash class.
Was wondering how good it is.

Another question: are there any social gatherings (in Cape Town) that get together and swop ideas, make suggestions, give feedback etc.?

The SouthYeasters are from your neck of the woods.

I'm from JHB so have never been to any of the BeerLab classes - but if you know nothing than any information you can get will be a bonus :)

I did the Beerguevara course, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

And yeah, Southyeasters are a winner. Signup for the mailing list and come along to the next meetup on 13 November at the Devil's Peak Taproom.

I see you also have those small thermometers. Do they get the job done? I'm looking for a thermometer when I do biab so I can get the temps of the boil and so on.

I have a wield less dial but that only goes to about 70

I got them for R17 on eBay. I've tested and they are within 2 degrees of my proper thermometer, which is fine for me for throwing them in the hlt or taping to my fermenter.
