You stick to that Bud, fella.

I'm still strongly of the opinion that any of Castle, Amstel, Castle Lite, Heineken, etc, next to each other on a blind tasting would for must of us be extremely difficult to distinguish. I reckon maybe I could pick up windhoek since its a little hoppier than the rest, and maybe label since its a bit sweeter, but my palate isn't good enough to really tell one lite lager from another.

Ok, but could you, for example, distinguish between 4 craft beers of the same style (say pale ale, or Weiss) in a blind tasting?
I'm not entirely convinced I could pick jack black's pale ale out of a lineup of similar beers, or blockhouse out of a lineup of IPAs.

Don't get me wrong, I love craft beer, but I think the whole "blind taste test" is a cop out argument a lot of the time.

Hmmm, I dunno, I am not so certain that I wouldn't. Well, let's put it this way, I think that different craft beers within the same style are sufficiently different that if you knew what you were looking for it would be straight forward spot.

Well that's the whole point, isn't it? SAB make a few beer brands that all essentially taste the same. I'm not saying they are bad beers, but some folk want something different.

Just started brewing as well.... well actually started 6 weeks ago. Did a real ale extract which was ok but lacks involvement. Came out really nice though.

Now started on a Saazer Pilsner Partial Mash. That was very enjoyable but the 2 month wait is getting to me and its only been 1 week.... damn cold fermentation.

Looking forward to all grain next.

Welcome! The real trick is to brew again reasonably soon and get something of a pipeline going. If you have some beer to drink it eases the pain of the wait...

It was the longest 2 weeks of my life waiting to taste my first ever beer.

Now I brew and forget about the beer until it's time to dry hop or bottle.

i think i have found the holy grail yesterday, is a beer by the name of "Paulaner", i had the dunkel, this is probably the best beer i have had, it tastes quite fruity, but not really (hard to explain),its creamy and it has a bitter sweet after taste, definitely recommend everyone gives this a go, got it at Makro Wonderboom
Just wish craft beers are not so bloody pricy.

I have no idea, maybe they had a brewery there, according to Wiki its in Germany Munich.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulaner_Brewery

They used to be at the Waterfront until about 2011. Their business model was to set up breweries in other countries, run by master brewers. It closed due to a dispute over rental increases by the Waterfront.

The good things is, the brewer who ran the Waterfront branch, Wolfgang Koedel, is now the Master Brewer at Cape Brewing Company out in Paarl. Their 2 weiss beers are well worth a try, and the brewery is a must-see if you're in the Cape.

If i ever go to cape town, i'll give it a shot, the Wine routes are so last year :p
Its a shame they had to close, wonder why places like this never approach SAB so that its more widely available for much cheaper, will also enable SAB brew something decent for a change.

Im going to give "The Trooper" a try when i get home, was a HUGE iron maiden fan back in the day

The CBC weiss beers are mighty delicious.

Although I have had quite a few wheat beers, they are not my favorite but this is the first dark wheat that I have seen and would like to give it a go as I normally enjoy a "Dunkel", what was the cost and size at Makro ?

Perhaps someone can advice me, i have a big function at the end of April, basically we are holding four 30th birthdays on the same day and we wanted to do "beer on the house" thing, for this we will need a 50l Keg, or two 30L kegs, but where the heck do you buy them from, and how much are they?, obviously when you have the Keg you will need the pouring mechanism as well? Ideally we would have liked something like Gillroy's or a real beer, but we will settle for Castle at this stage :-/

Plan B is buy a lot of brandy :)

Look at "Keg king" (http://www.kegking.co.za)
They do that sort of thing, with a decent selection of beers.
