Home-Connect Moving on to Afrihost

Move happened in our area last Monday and since then I can't access my devices on my local network from outside, port forwarding does not work any more. Now, I can't access my solar inverter, wifi switches and cameras. They gave me something like a static address through L2TP, only to make things worse as the ip resets every minute, canceling any SSH or FTP and many other connections!

And according to their cancellation policy, if I cancel today to move to another ISP, I will only be able to do that on 1/7/2024. So I have to stay another month and 10 days without access to my devices!

Afrihost have a dynamic dns service that updates to your IP automatically.
It should be something like yourusername.ip.afrihost.co.za or maybe yourusername.ip.home-connect.co.za
Contact @Afrigirl and @AfriNatic via PM and im sure they can get you sorted.

So home-connect support staff told me to cancel and move ISP because since the move to Afrihost on the 14th I have been getting packet loss and reduced speed on my line, exasperated during the busy hours of the evening.

Now I have to go through the arduous process of moving ISP because they can't be arsed to fix it.

According to support I am "double NATing" between Home-Connect and Afrihost.

@AfriNatic will I have the same issue when moving to Afrihost?

This is supposed to be 500/200 Mbps line.

Same thing on my side, they did the migration just over a month ago and my 200/200 Mbps line has been terrible. If I get 50 Mbps I am extremely lucky.
I too am a victim of not being able to do any port forwarding anymore.

Home-connect never answers their phones or replies to any support tickets.
So I sent my cancellation request.
Since Afrihost did the migration and took over it has been terrible.

On top of this, I was also paying for a static IP and they went and changed my IP as well. So they couldn't even bother to let me know that they would change my IP, so some software that I use that is licensed to an IP stopped working and I was forced to purchase new licenses. Afrihost is such a joke.

It has been three weeks and I can't even watch Twitch or YouTube higher than 480p. Anything higher and it buffers and fails to load.
Just to let anyone who reads this know. When you cancel with Home-Connect, you pay for 60 days (two months) before they cancel your account. So the so called 30 day notice is actually, "It takes them 30 days to accept your cancellation, then it takes another 30 days for the cancellation to take place."

I have already canceled two line with Home-Connect in the past (I had a line at my parents place and a line when I moved), and this paying two month extra after you submit a cancellation happened both times.

This is a 360p stream which has been buffering now for 5 minutes.

Hi

Sorry for the issues experienced. Please can you drop me a dm with your email address and a trace route? We have made some changes earlier today as part of troubleshooting to see if the impact is mitigated. Are you still experiencing slow speeds tonight?

Hi

I did a quick test and the line speed seems back to what it used to be. I will check again tonight and see if the issues during peak hours are also resolved and let you know.

Thank you.

As a Home-Connect customer of 4 years, I can tell you that Afrihosts network is ****. Since Afrihost bought over Home-Connect and started routing through their network, I have constant speed issues, disconnects, lag spikes and mass latency. They are terrible and due to Afrihosts involvement, I have put in termination for both my 100\100 links. I'm moving to Wirulink where they have a solid core network. In my 10 years dealing with Afrihost, I have never had a positive experience.

Hi.
I am sorry you are experiencing issues with your home network. Has a ticket been logged with Home Connect?

where are you located? also, what FNO? I personally feel like mine has improved since the cutover.

Hi @AfriNatic

Just seeing if there any word on the IPv6?
I'm keen to try as long as it doesn't effect my static IP
Yes we will allow it but after the migration is done. For now the focus is on the migration and then optimising after that. Estimate timeline is about 2 months for IPv6 to be fully functional for Home-Connect clients. We will likely allocate prefixes from our existing allocation as Home-Connect doesn't have any.
