Home install: Need to split an ethernet connection but no power for switch

Hi folks,

I'm currently setting up my network in our new home.

I have to place my LTE router upstairs in the spare bedroom as this is where I get the best reception. As a result, I now have to run 2 ethernet cables from the router, 1 to my access point (POE) and the other 1 downstairs to connect my HTPC. The cables need to run along a wall, under a door and then around a door frame- basically from the left side of the image below which shows the access point.

The problem is, is that I'd like to try not have to double up on the ethernet cables and there's no power where the access point is for a switch- plus it may not look great. Getting 1 cable to fit under the door was a mission, doubt a second will fit.

I ran 1 ethernet cable yesterday for the access point (still to need to attach it to the wall)

Please ignore the shoes :D

Still need to run the second cable as follows:

Does anyone have suggestions?

I wish I could get something like an RJ45 splitter - not sure if this would work...

Why do you not place the LTE router closer to the switch, then just run an external X-POL antenna cable on the outside and place the antenna to face the donor site?

I wish I could - body corporate is not interested in the antenna going on the outside so don't have any flexibility in this regard.
This is my only option for the antenna placement:

If I place it elsewhere I'm lucky if I get 5mbps down...

If you are not going higher then 100Mbps then there are enough pairs inside 1 cable to make 2 ethernet connections on each side. Its a dirty way of doing things.

I'm just not sure if POE will still work on the one cable.

Edit:

If you can place your POE injector right before the Access Point it should still work.

What this guy said :D
If it's cheap POE using the blue/brown pairs then you can't.
Otherwise you can splice in the second cable's used pairs to run over those pairs.

Thanks for this..

It's one of these:

- I have no idea which pairs are being used for power though

You don't need to know that just be able to connect the RJ45 yourself.

If you look at the attached. Only the Orange pair(Orange and Orange/white) and Green(green and Green/White) pairs are used.

So for one RJ45 on both sides connect the Orange and green pairs exactly like on the picture on both sides of the long cable. Then connect the blue and brown pairs exactly where the Orange and Green pair goes for the second set of RJ45 plugs.

Now your long cable will have 2x RJ45 plugs on both sides.

To connect the POE injector in the following way.

Router---------Long Modified Cable-----------POE Injector-------Normal short cable-------------POE Access Point

Then to connect the Media Centre

Router---------Long Modified Cable-----------Media Centre

In theory this should work.
