A leading scientist has declared homeopathy a "therapeutic dead-end" after a systematic review concluded the controversial treatment was no more effective than placebo drugs.

Professor Paul Glasziou, a leading academic in evidence based medicine at Bond University, was the chair of a working party by the National Health and Medical Research Council which was tasked with reviewing the evidence of 176 trials of homeopathy to establish if the treatment is valid.

A total of 57 systematic reviews, containing the 176 individual studies, focused on 68 different health conditions - and found there to be no evidence homeopathy was more effective than placebo on any.

Whoda thunk it?

Guaranteed if I post this on my FB I will get a few comments to "do my research" and to "not support big pharma"... :whistling:

I've stopped trying to convert the invincibly ignorant. Fortunately breathing is more therapeutic.

While I agree with his findings, I'm a bit sceptic as to his motives when I saw that he busies himself with evidence based medicine.

It seems like he is on more of an emotional campaign than a matter-of-fact-research-and-conclusion.

Also an economic campaign against the use and purchase

Chair of the NHMRC Homeopathy Working Committee, Professor Paul Glasziou, said he hoped the findings would lead private health insurers to stop offering rebates on homeopathic treatments, and force pharmacists to reconsider stocking them.
..................
we hope there will be a lot of reasonable people out there who will reconsider selling, using or subsiding these substances.
