Hello,

I would appreciate if any of you guys have personal experience on Jazz models and answer my question.

I am looking to buy new Jazz (Budget 170K - cash purchase). Price of Jazz Comfort is 192K and for Trend it is 170K. As per specifications, below is the difference.

My only question - "Is it worth paying 22K for this difference?"

Comfort
Body coloured door handles - Yes
Body coloured mirrors - Yes
Wheel type - Alloy
Rim size - 15" x 5.5JJ
Spare tyre - Space saver
Steering column - height adjustable - Yes
Electric mirrors - Yes
Headlight adjuster - Manual
Tinted windscreen - Yes
Courtesy lights - map - Yes

Trend
Body coloured door handles - No mention in spec
Wheel type - 15" x 5.5JJ
Rim size - Space saver
Spare tyre - 175 / 65R15
Steering column - height adjustable - Manual
Electric mirrors - Manual
Headlight adjuster - Yes
Tinted windscreen - Passenger

I have the Trend and its really nice to drive. Really fuel efficient

BTW the side mirrors are electric as well as the front 2 windows. Back 2 are manual.

I have a Trend. It's a good car, handles well, and the only thing I feel it is missing is a mirror in the driver sun visor (for which I was unwilling to pay 20 odd K)

How is the boot space in the Jazz? We have been looking at the Jazz and the Brio sedan. We have a 19 month old son and we need all the boot space we can get. I prefer the Jazz but am unsure about the boot space. Wife prefers the Brio because of the boot space.

If I was given the choice, I would pay R22k less and do without those gadgets. I have a 2012 Trend and it is one of the best cars I have owned. Amazingly economical (5.1 l/100km) and the rear seat arrangement is useful

Some cons (but applies to the range) - Suspension clonks over gravel roads, huge windscreen gathers a lot of radiation in summer and the air-con can hardly cope.

Also visit: http://clubjazz.org/forum/ and you will get lots of tips from readers and posters

There is more boot space than a Golf. Best is to take along some moderate-sized suitcases and try them. It is not huge, and of course depends on what you want to carry

The actual differences (From the brochure):
Comfort has:
* coloured door handles
* Alloy wheels (Instead of Steel with plastic hub cap)

That's it. I wouldn't pay the extra R22k just for alloy wheels and colour coded door handles. The Elegance starts adding in features that I would pay for, such as bigger engine, curtain airbags, service plan, etc. The Elegance sells for R215 200 though.

Which ever car you do decide to get, remember to negotiate! Just bought a car for my wife and got a R35 000 discount off the retail price because I asked.

Might I also recommend looking at the Suzuki Swift? Swift GLS is R184 900 (Which you can easily get down to R170 000) and is incredibly well speced:

* 1.4l engine (70kw)
* Disc brakes all round (Better for stopping)
* Front and rear fog lamps
* Electric mirrors
* Leather steering wheel with audio controls
* Trip computer
* All round electric windows
* Remote control
* Keyless start
* Automatic aircon (i.e. climate control)
* USB socket for a flash drive/ipod
* 6 airbags
* ABS, etc.
* and a 4 year / 60 000km service plan (Which the Jazz doesn't have)
* Just as reliable as a Honda.

I would be quite surprised if the Brio had more boot space than the Jazz.

A few years ago we chose the Jazz over the Polo, mainly for interior space, and I think the Jazz boot was slightly bigger than the Polo hatch, although perhaps not the Polo sedan.

If boot space is an issue then how about the Ballade. Incredible value for money there as it is the same price as the Jazz but comes with a few more features and a service plan as standard.

Only problem with the Ballade is that its fugly as hell which is probably why they aren't selling well at all.

@OP Go for the Jazz trend.

Thanks to everyone that replied - will look at all the suggestions mentioned.

@Dakota. I missed important cost - service plan. Thanks - will definitely look at Suzuki as features look great.

Take the Trend. I was in the same position earlier this year, chose a second hand low mileage 1.5. Would have bought the Trend had I gone for the 1.3 new though.

The best advice I can give you is to make a list of 2 or 3 cars that are in your budget (Remembering that you can normally cut about 10% off the retail price, more if you are buying cash) and then go and test drive them! If you are in the Centurion area, I can highly recommend Colin Bolter from Suzuki Centurion. He was the sales person for my wife's car and I've never had such good service from a sales person in my life!

The Jazz has a large boot AND magic seats, which makes the cargo space incredibly large and versatile. Those seats have been a lifesaver for me time and again. I can easily fold up/down a seat one handed.

A few years ago I was trying to move a desk using my Bantam and it would not fit in the back. A colleague said I could use her Jazz and I lol'd at her... Well needless to say it fit and I had egg on face..

At the risk of a bit of a necro of this thread, I found it quite useful.

Planning on replacing our 2008 Jazz 1.4 for something a little younger. New is just out of reach right now.

Found the advice here by those who contributed useful. Thank you all! :)

Edit: I found the thread through Google

Look out for the new Jazz being released... You could also potentially grab a great deal on the outgoing model
